News and Notes
The New York Times writes about the Asperger's syndrome debate
"Asperger's syndrome has entered the popular culture," writes Claudia Wallis in The New York Times on November 3, "but as a label, experts say it is vague and confusing." Read the entire article on the NYT website.

Autism and Asperger'sOn November 9, Simon Baron-Cohen wrote in The Times about some experts who are charged with revising the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders who are "causing consternation by considering removing Asperger's syndrome from the next edition, scheduled to appear in 2012. The committee argues that the syndrome should be deleted because there is no clear separation between it and its close neighbor, autism." Read his op-ed in its entirety on the NYT Web site.

Center for Rural Affairs:Nov. News: Rural Small Business, Community and Health Care

Greetings,

As the print version of this newsletter was hitting mailboxes across the country, the House of Representatives was voting on their health care reform bill. We'll have more on what is in that bill for rural people in future newsletters. As the debate moves to the Senate, we're advocating for health care provisions that help rural communities, small business owners and family farmers and ranchers.

In addition to health care, read on for articles about small business, rural community development, rural grocery stores and more.

COMMUNITY
Sustaining Small Town Grocery Stores, Part II
Last month we wrote about the importance of a grocery store to a small town's economic base, ability to attract new residents and meet the needs of current residents and reported on strategies communities are using to keep grocery stores operating in their towns. This month we discuss challenges rural grocery stores face how to meet them. Click for more.

Identifying Avenues to Build Community Strength
There are many promising strategies to create a better future for rural communities and genuine opportunity for rural people. Members of each community must identify approaches that fit them and then provide the grassroots leadership to make them happen. Here we identify 7 good ones. Click for more.

POLICY
Reports Released on Rural Health Reform
As the health reform debate moves on in Congress, we have participated in releasing several new reports showing the need for reform for rural people and rural communities. The reports analyze the House bill, examine medical debt among farmers and ranchers, and illustrate the top 10 issues for rural health reform with personal stories. Click for more.

USDA and Justice Probe Monsanto

Is better agricultural antitrust enforcement on the horizon? Attorney General Eric Holder and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will hold public workshops on agricultural competition issues in early 2010 to examine opportunities for better enforcement of antitrust and competition policy relating to agriculture. Meanwhile, Monsanto is in the spotlight. Click for more.

Ag Appropriations Bill Passes
Last month the House and Senate passed the Fiscal Year 2010 Agriculture Appropriations bill, which includes increased funding for two important rural development programs and two important credit programs. Click for more.

Apply Now for Nebraska Micro Tax Credit
Now is the time to submit applications for the Nebraska Advantage Microenterprise Tax Credit Act. The Nebraska Department of Revenue began accepting applications for the 2010 tax year on Nov. 1. Only two million is available, and experience tells us it is allocated very quickly. Click for more.

BUSINESS
Youth Entrepreneurship on the Rise
Our July 2009 newsletter spoke of the merits of entrepreneurship in rural schools. This month we expand that topic with the stories of three small schools at work building future entrepreneurs: Cody-Kilgore, Leeton, KS and Bancroft-Rosalie (in our backyard). Click for more.

Proposed Rules for Rural Micro Program Released
After months of waiting, the rules for the new Rural Microentrepreneur Assistance Program have been released for comments. While we're excited the process is moving forward, we also see lots of ways the rules should be improved. Comments are due Nov. 23. If you or your organization is interested in submitting comments or joining a sign-on letter, contact Steph Larsen at StephL@cfra.org for examples or more information.

Youth Renewing the Country
A new book, Youth Renewing the Countryside, shares the stories of young people in each state who are returning to rural areas and endeavors. A result of the work of young writers and photographers across the country, with support from SARE, the Center for Rural Strategies and Renewing the Countryside, you can purchase the book or download it for free.

Across the Nation
Tennessee: The American chestnut was a dominant species in eastern United States forests before a blight wiped out the species in the early 1900s. The chestnut was once used for building, tanning leather, as an important source of food for humans and wildlife, and as fodder for hogs. Click for more.

Arkansas: How long students may ride a school bus is questioned in an appeal filed in the Arkansas Supreme Court. Several students attending Fourche Valley Elementary and High School, along with their parents, will ask the Arkansas Supreme Court to void decisions by the State Board of Education and a lower court to close the community's schools until the state defines excessive transportation time. Click for more.

Kansas: The University of Kansas recently launched a new pharmacy school in Wichita to turn out more rural pharmacists. Rural drugstores are in decline, and more than 30 Kansas counties are underserved and seven don't have any pharmacists at all. Click for more.

New Mexico: Each month residents of Ramah, New Mexico, population 407, get a visit from Rural Bookmobile West, a bus-sized bookmobile filled with 3,500 to 4,000 titles, CDs, DVDs and magazines. Click for more.

Development Matters: And There Goes 2009

Weekly Column

Rural Americans Support Health Care Reform
The media often suggests that rural people do not support congressional action to fix America's health care system. With critical votes approaching in Washington, that claim should be examined.

Sweet the Bitter Drought
The odds of a rural American being underinsured are 70 percent higher than for urban residents. Rural Americans are also less likely to have choices in private insurance coverage.

Investment During Difficult Times
When the Nebraska Legislature convenes in November to balance the state's budget, it should spare the small business and rural development programs that have already taken deep cuts.

The Center for Rural Affairs was formed in 1973 by rural Nebraskans concerned about family farms and rural communities. Today, we work across all of rural America to strengthen small businesses, family farms and ranches, and rural communities. On our website, you can contact us, read our Blog for Rural America, and support our work with a contribution.

Yeshiva World: VIDEO: Nidal Dressed In Muslim Clothing Just Hours Before Shooting

VIDEO: Nidal Dressed In Muslim Clothing Just Hours Before Shooting

VIDEO LINK BELOW: A picture began to emerge Thursday of the suspect in the Fort Hood shootings, 39-year-old Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan.

An owner of a 7-Eleven at Fort Hood said Hasan -- whom he knows as "Major Nidal" -- came in for coffee and hash browns most mornings, including the morning of the shootings. Surveillance video from the store obtained by CNN shows a man who according to the store owner is Hasan at the cashier's counter at about 6:20 a.m. Thursday, about seven hours before the mass shooting. He was carrying a beverage and dressed in traditional Arab garb. Another surveillance video from Tuesday showed the man in scrubs.

"He looked normal," the owner said. "Came in had his hash browns and coffee as you see in the surveillance video."

The owner said he was too busy to chat with Hasan on Thursday, but through brief talks learned the officer's background was Jordanian, though he didn't speak Arabic well. He said Hasan didn't wear a wedding ring and jokingly asked several times whether the owner knew a bride for him.

Hasan would also ask the owner whether he planned to attend Friday prayers. The owner would say he was too busy.

A former neighbor of Hasan said he lived in a highrise apartment complex in Silver Spring, Maryland, with another man, apparently his brother, and that the two appeared friendly.

"They had some Arabic signs out there, and I asked them what they meant," said the woman, who asked not to be identified. The other man, who routinely wore a chef's outfit, told her it was a prayer, she said. "They seemed like they were nice people," she said.

The two men moved out three or four months ago, which she noticed because the Muslim prayer had been removed from their door.

"Honestly, they seemed like very cool, calm guys, and religious guys," she said. "It's kind of strange."

According to military records, Hasan was born in Virginia, and a federal official said he was a U.S. citizen of Jordanian descent.

Fort Hood shooting: Nidal Malik Hasan 'said Muslims should rise up'

Col Terry Lee, a retired officer who worked with him at the military base in Texas, alleged Maj Hasan had angry confrontations with other officers over his views. Maj Hasan was reportedly fighting orders to be deployed to Iraq at the end of the month, claiming that he was the victim of harassment and insults because of his Arab background and his faith. The major is a psychiatrist who had been treating soldiers returning from Iraq for post-traumatic stress and alcohol and drug abuse problems. "He was making outlandish comments condemning our foreign policy and claimed Muslims had the right to rise up and attack Americans," Col Lee told Fox News. "He said Muslims should stand up and fight the aggressor and that we should not be in the war in the first place." He said that Maj Hasan said he was "happy" when a US soldier was killed in an attack on a military recruitment centre in Arkansas in June. An American convert...

Teacher Claims Fingerprinting Is 'Mark of the Beast'

A 22-year veteran kindergarten teacher in the Texas Bible Belt could lose her job for refusing, on religious grounds, to give fingerprints under a state law requiring them. The evangelical Christian, Pam McLaurin, is fighting a looming suspension, claiming that fingerprinting amounts to the "Mark of the Beast," and hence is a violation of her First Amendment right to practice her religion. Her case is similar to a lawsuit by a group of Michigan farmers, some of them Amish, challenging rules requiring the tagging of livestock with RFID chips, saying the devices...

Test Proves 'The Eyes Have It' For ID Verification

The eyes may be the mirror to the soul, but the iris reveals a person's true identity -- its intricate structure constitutes a powerful biometric. A new report by computer scientists at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) demonstrates that iris recognition algorithms can maintain their accuracy and interoperability with compact images, affirming their potential for large-scale identity...

Exit Tony Blair, enter Herman Van Rompuy - frontrunner for top EU job

The ideal appointment for the EU presidency, it has been suggested, would be "someone who could stop the traffic in Beijing" – the implication being that Tony Blair, whatever else he may represent, at least has enough star wattage to do that. With the waning of Blair's candidacy, however, and the emergence of the Belgian prime minister, Herman Van Rompuy, as frontrunner, Europe may find itself contemplating a president who can barely stop traffic in Brussels. If one expected to find in a Belgian premier a somewhat anonymous, grey...

Kenya remains defiant over ICC trials

Kenya on Thursday declined to hand over post election violence cases to the International Criminal Court (ICC), further complicating Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo's work as he now must get approval from the ICC Pre-trial Chamber before he commences investigations. Mr Ocampo's two-hour meeting with President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga yielded little, with the government merely pledging to cooperate with his office should he decide to launch a probe. The prosecutor, who jetted into the country on Thursday morning, now says...

Barack Obama's 'dithering' hurts Afghan mission, British sources say

The Daily Telegraph has learned that there is growing frustration in Whitehall at the US president's prolonged deliberations over Afghanistan. Since early September, Mr Obama has been considering a review of Afghan strategy by General Stanley McChrystal, who has advised the president to send an extra 40,000 US troops to Afghanistan. As well as troop numbers,..

Iran 'tested advanced nuclear warhead design'

The technology can enable the building of warheads that...

Global Agenda: The gold rush

Vending machines at German railway stations are selling small blocks of gold, in lieu of chocolate bars. Harrods, which caters to a higher-class customer than mere commuters, is now selling blocks of gold more or less off the shelf. These and other recently reported items are part of a steadily growing body of evidence suggesting that gold is at the center of a speculative frenzy that, in many respects, displays the characteristics of a mania. To suggest this, especially in public, is to incur...

Tea Party Patriots Descend on U.S. Capitol

Still reeling from stinging election setbacks in New Jersey and Virginia, congressional Democrats braced Thursday for a massive grassroots-conservative rally on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, part of Tea Party Patriot efforts try to derail the Obama administration's plans for a federal overhaul of the U.S. healthcare system. Tea Party Patriots leaders estimate 10,000 to 20,000 persons are on hand – far more than the...

House Poised to Debate, Vote on Health Care Reform Bill

President Obama's sweeping vision of a health care overhaul will come to an historic debate and vote in the House this weekend. "That would be my expectation," he said on the House floor, responding to a query from House Minority Whip Eric Cantor,..

Good Catholics Should Not be Masons

LONDON (UK Catholic Herald) - A few years ago I was told that at the ceremony of induction of the vicar of one of the local Anglican churches, the Bible which was handed to him had embossed on its front cover the emblem of the Freemasons, the square and compasses. It subsequently came to light that nearly all the male members of his Parochial Church Council were "on the square", and his...

U.S. government driving growth of biometrics in self-service

ABC reports that earlier this year, as part of his administration's efforts to reform the U.S. healthcare system, President Obama pledged to ensure that all medical records in the United States would be electronic within five years. The plan is sure to have far-reaching effects on the healthcare industry as a whole, and it also is likely to create opportunities for technology providers in the space. Patient check-in kiosks have existed in doctors' offices for some time, but they've not become as ubiquitous as in other...

Ice chunks from sky batter a North Side house

The chunk of ice dropped from a partly cloudy sky onto Linda Dowd's roof around dinnertime Wednesday, with a crash that set her family running in alarm. "The whole house shook," she said outside the North Wolcott Avenue home, while her son held up baseball-size ice chunks in a plastic bag. The falling object caved in the corner of their 5-year-old roof dormer and showered ice through their front yard as they watched TV a few feet away. "I thought the chimney fell. My husband...

Army psychiatrist identified as attacker is captured alive, general says

Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a lifetime Muslim, is an Army psychiatrist who had been promoted to major in May. A defense official told NBC News that Hasan arrived at Fort Hood in July for his first assignment after completing his psychiatry residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, followed by a fellowship in disaster and preventive psychiatry.

Hasan, who is wounded, was scheduled to be deployed to Iraq on Nov. 28, officials said. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, said military officials had told her that Hasan was "pretty upset" about his deployment orders.

"I think this might be our last chance to give congressional Democrats something to think about before they destroy the country," said Farah. "It might be our last, best hope of stopping the madness."

The effort clearly reveals, says Farah, "that Americans are mobilized to take action to stop Washington's plans for bigger, more expensive and more intrusive government."

Pink slips boxed and stacked for delivery to members of Congress

The "pink slips" specifically warn that senders will oppose in the next election any member of Congress who votes for more spending, intrusive legislation that restricts personal freedom and more big government programs.

WND announced the "Send Congress a Pink Slip" campaign with a stated goal of 5 million notices, individually addressed, personalized with sender's name and address and delivered to all members of Congress by Fed Ex.

In the first week, suppliers of paper reported the campaign had completely tapped the nation's reserves of 8.5 x 11 inch pink paper. As the last full pallet of pink paper was delivered to the printer, new supplies had to be ordered and manufactured.

"It's our version of a stimulus program," said Farah.

The "Send Congress a Pink Slip" campaign ensures that a brief but poignant message will be delivered by Fed Ex to all 535 members of the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate – all for a remarkably low price based on economies of scale.

The cost of each message translates to 6 cents per message – individually addressed for both the recipient and the sender and shipped by Fed Ex.

"We encourage citizens to take individual actions," said Farah. "But when we act as a group, it's more cost-effective and the results more dramatic. Just try Fed Exing members of Congress yourself and see what it costs. We have learned from past experience that Fed Ex actually ensures delivery to members. What they do with them at that point is their choice."

"I believe this is already the most successful grass-roots effort in history," said Porter. "After all the town halls and tea parties and the massive demonstration in Washington, Congress still hasn't gotten the message. Now it's time to show them just how serious we are with a message aimed at what they most care about – getting re-elected." The "pink slip" officials are getting is a warning that they work for the taxpayers. It lists four key issues that are deemed unacceptable to participants.

"If you vote for any of these, your real pink slip will be issued in the next election," it warns.

Note: If you're a member of the media and would like to interview Joseph Farah or Janet Porter, e-mail WND.

[freedomisnotdead] >URGENT<

Please read this and forward it to everyone you know, ask them to forward it to their contacts, this needs to be viral by the end of the day today, this could save one great project that is being attacked by people who need attention and get it only through trying to trash others who are working hard for our freedoms.

TPS Update--Urgent Need to Set the Record Straight--Stand Up to Infil-traitors

Reply |CryerLaw@aol.com

Dear Tea Party Squared Organizers and Local Leaders:

An unfortunate situation has developed, unprovoked, unforeseen and inexplicable, but there nonetheless, and I am urgently asking each and every one of you to assist in rectifying it.

For some unknown reason, or perhaps no reason, a woman in St. Petersburg has taken it upon herself to attempt to sabotage Tea Party Squared's attempt to arm members of the Tea Party, 9/12, CFL, RLC and other groups with the inside story and secrets of the political game that would allow them to exert control over their representatives. I have no idea what her motives are, but I do know that she is malicious and willing to concoct outrageous lies in order to injure this important project.

She does not know me and has no way of knowing anything about me, but she has concocted and distributed a totally false string of accusations directed at me personally, stating that I am a disbarred attorney (a lie), that I am a tax evader (another lie) and that I have encouraged others to evade taxes and left a trail of ruined lives in my wake (more lies).

I am not nor have I ever been disbarred and there are no disciplinary actions of any kind pending against me. I am not a tax evader and that is not merely a claim, it is an official finding. And not only have I never suggested that anyone evade taxes or cease filing returns, I urge everyone that they should file anything the IRS demands rather than face that rogue organization alone. My "wake" is filled with people with solved problems and rescued lives, not ruined ones.

This woman has admitted that she has lied, but has provided no plausible explanation for doing so. To my knowledge, though, she has not distributed that admission to those to whom she broadcast those lies, much less to those who received forwards of it.

The Tea Party Squared project is not about taxes. It is about building a well-equipped army of citizens who know how to build their organizations and to exert pressure on representatives to honor and reflect the will of the people.

Our objectives include not only forcing the IRS to respect and obey the law, but to repeal the Federal Reserve Act, restore sound money, abolish the Department of No Child Allowed Ahead and a host of other federal tentacles that are strangling our country. None of these things can happen without informed and capable Citizens who can and will get behind these and other issues and push in a way that cannot be ignored, that makes something move.

With the exception of responding to my defamer and those she purports to speak for I have not made a broadcast response because I did not want to seem to dignify those lies by doing so. Given the effect it has had on today's seminar turn-out, however, it appears that the lies have to be corrected and as publicly and quickly as possible. As I said, I have no idea what her motives are for making up all those lies and disseminating them across the internet, but I know that they cannot be honorable.

She is not speaking on behalf of the Constitution Party as is clearly indicated in the email below I received from Dan Gonzales, Florida Chairman of the Constitution Party. It is also clear that Mr. Gonzales sees the merit in our efforts to sharpen the Citizenry skills of awakening Americans.

Please help us get the word out that 1) This woman is a liar and all of the accusations she has made are absolutely false; 2) she is not speaking on behalf of the Constitution Party and in fact is considered a "distraught and confused woman" and a "deceiver" by the party; and 3) The Constitution Party is supportive and appreciative of TA's and Tea Party Squared's efforts to educate the public in using its untapped power as Citizens.

Please send this out to as many people as you can as quickly as you can.

We have six seminars scheduled over the next six days and it is imperative for the survival of this project that they are well-attended. That cannot happen without your immediate support and assistance.

We cannot allow liars and saboteurs within to derail this movement and its continued development. If we cannot stand up to people like this then what hope can we have for standing up to the government?

Please act now to counteract the damage done. Please urge all your members and all those they can bring with them to attend these seminars and prove that they cannot be manipulated by lying, destructive people who have infiltrated the movement.

Thanks to all of you for all that you do, and, especially for your help in saving this important project,

Tom Cryer

PS: The remarks we received from those attending today's seminar ranged from "Amazing" to "Awesome".

Mr. Gonzales' E-mail to me regarding this malevolent liar:

Dear Tom:
I applaud you for placing your foot firmly into Rebecca's big mouth! She is a very distraught and confused woman to say the least. Once again, I would like to apologize for the mis-representation as Rebecca is a deceiver and does not represent our party.
For some strange reason she believes herself to be a vassal of the Lord armed with a Constitutional sword. Maybe this will force her to withdraw back into the hole from which she crawled.
God bless your efforts in educating our fellow man. Have a great day and hope to hear from you soon.

The House on Haunted Hill

The House on Haunted Hill, Vincent Price

Perfect flick for all hallows eve, it's good stuff. Good enough to take your mind off the real monsters and terrifying ghouls on the Hill and in the White House:

A perennial favorite of the "Shock Theatre" TV circuit, House on Haunted Hill stars Vincent Price as sinister gent (you're surprised?) Frederick Loren, who resides in a sinister mansion on a sinister hill, where seven murders have occurred. He makes a proposal to several strangers, offtering $10,000 to anyone who can last the entire night. Loren festively gives each of his guests a tiny coffin containing a loaded handgun, designed to protect them from the spooks that emerge in the house over the course of the night. The picture hinges on its surprise ending, which packs in several by-now-familiar twists. When originally released to theaters, House on Haunted Hill was accompanied by one of those gimmicks so beloved of producer/director William Castle: the gimmick was "Emergo," and it involved a prop skeleton that "emerged" from the side of the screen at a crucial moment to frighten the audience. Like most of Castle's best films, House didn't really need the gimmick, but its presence added to the fun -- especially when second- and third-time viewers responded to "Emergo" by bombarding the skeleton with popcorn and empty soda bottles. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

November 16th: Rally for Rifqa!

Honor killing victims' family members

Rifqa Bary's civil rights are being violated. She is being held prisoner: no phone, no internet no public school .........house arrest in accord with sharia law. Female apostates are imprisoned until they recant.

Ohio is practicing sharia law. Where are Rifqa's civil rights? Where is her freedom of religion? Why isn't Obama fighting for her right to NOT wear the hijab?

Her parents, here illegally from Sri Lanka, perjured themselves repeatedly and abused Rifqa for years. They are devout Muslims. The punishment for apostasy in Islam is death. Why can't Rifqa choose her own attorney? She is up against an array of legal talent and her parents have changed lawyers as frequently as toddlers change diapers.

Attention NY Voters: Corrupt Pol in Staten Island -- Dirty Debi Rose and the Working Family Parties connection

Hey Staten Island! Wake up! Staten Island is one of NYC's five boroughs -- home to cops, firefighters and a mix of hard working blue collar and white collar families. Staten Island was hit real bad on 911. They have no clue how dirty the Working Families Party is. But we do.

The Democrats are a racketeering organization using their proxies like the Left wing Working Families Party (how ironic), ACORN, and community organizing organizations to steal elections and usurp the will of free men. (more here)

The NY Post came out with this story on the Working Families Party and Debi Rose connection. We must purge these criminal politicians and this party from our local and state governments. Rose appears to be assisting illegal activity and trafficking, scamming the campaign finance system. She is pleading the fifth as the records will, ahem, incriminate her.

Working families have no greater enemy than the Orwellian and cynically named "Working Families Party"  --  these commies are the scourge of hard working men and women and families.

Pol Debi Rose Stonewalls Suit On WFP Campaign

A City Council hopeful won't cough up documents related to whether the Working Families Party is scamming the campaign finance system -- because the case could involve "criminal liability," according to documents released yesterday.

The bombshell development was revealed at a court hearing where lawyers for the WFP and the campaign of Staten Island candidate Debi Rose tried to get a suit against them tossed.

Former Giuliani administration Deputy Mayor Randy Mastro, the lawyer opposing the Rose campaign, called it an "extraordinary development."

But last night, Rose tried reversing course, backing off her campaign's Debi rose argument against revealing the records based on the Fifth Amendment, which protects against self-incrimination.

"If my attorney objected to the motion on the grounds of the Fifth Amendment, as some reports indicate, that is not my position and I will instruct him to withdraw that objection," Rose said.

She still opposes the release, however.

In yesterday's hearing, the judge didn't rule on a request to dismiss the suit by a group of voters claiming they were disenfranchised by the way the WFP's political arm, Data and Field Services, operates.

The first-of-its-kind suit, which Mastro says he's doing free of charge, comes as the WFP has been briskly increasing its influence in city races.

Rose's move to block the release of the campaign documents on Fifth Amendment grounds was revealed in an affidavit filed by the plaintiffs.

The WFP and Rose had tried Thursday to buck a discovery request saying they had to produce documents and campaign finance records.

A lawyer for the campaign said Rose's treasurer, David Thomas, wouldn't produce them because they "may implicate criminal liability and his client would therefore have Fifth Amendment rights protecting him from having to make any such compelled disclosure," according to the affidavit, which quoted a deputy clerk in the Appellate Division.

Even Larry Mandelker, a lawyer for Data and Field Services, expressed surprise in court yesterday. He said, "I was very struck by the statement that was made by the counsel for the campaign. But that's not my client . . . I heard it, and I noted it."

Debi Rose from Staten Island is frequently covered in Tom Good's NextLeftNotes site. Members of his group have even participated in campaigning for her. (hat tip Tom)

I have not had time to research them all, but I urge Atlas readers to start looking into the links to  see what we can find.

Debbie rose

In this photo, Elaine Brower (far Left wearing keffiya) of the WorldCan'tWait (Revolutionary Communist Party front group). Mike Marini (also part of Tom Good's SI crew) is behind Debi's left shoulder. Devra Morice (wheelchair) is another radical Leftist (famous for her rants).

And from a fundraiser:

Debbie rose2

"With 28 years experience as a community organizer and as a member of Community Board 1, Rose is popular with Island progressives. She has picked up the endorsements of the Staten Island Democratic Association – Staten Island's most progressive Democratic club, Naral New York, CSEA Local 1000, UAW Region 9A, DC37 and DC37 Local 1701, and the New York Working Families Party."

UPDATE: Free thinker wrote me:

Pamela: I am an old friend of Debi Rose. Going back to High School. She is a good person but she is an extreme Liberal. I have been covering her campaign for city council. I have attended her fund raisers and have friends in her inner circle. There are tons of Marxists behind her. I have observed them for years. They are involved in the Staten Island Democrat Party on a high level. I have attended their meetings for years. These are the same types who are now in the Obama White House.

The Staten Island Democrat Party has an open door policy towards Marxists and radical black activists. They are involved in the Rose campaign and in almost every other Staten Island Democrat campaign. People have no idea how bad the situation is. Hard-core Marxists have taken over the Democrat Party on the local level and on the national level. Obama's operation is no surprise to me. I've seen it coming for many years.

Texas Doctors Stand Against Muslim Mafia CAIR and Islamic Supremacism: I love Texas

I love Texas, a state with testicular fortitude. I will be there next week. GET YOUR TICKETS HERE NOW!

Check this story out. The jihadis over at Muslim Mafia CAIR are waging a stealth jihad against this group of proud American doctors. I URGE YOU TO SUPPORT THIS DOCTORS GROUP - CareNow
Phone: 972-745-7500
Fax: 972-745-4376
Email: Comments@CareNow.com

This is another front, another act of war in the stealth jihad. It's their business and they can do what they want.  If I lived in Texas, they would be my new doctors. Mind you it was a job interview.  Sounds like a CAIR set-up.

Un-indicted co-conspirator CAIR ALERT!

CAIR: Texas Medical Group Denies Muslim Doctor Right to Hijab
Muslim civil rights organization says 'no hat' policy must have religious exemption

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 10/30/09) - The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today called on a major medical group in Texas to change its policy denying accommodation for Muslim employees who wear religious attire such as Islamic head Muslim doctor in hijab scarves (hijab) or beards.
CAIR said a Muslim doctor being interviewed for a position with CareNow, a medical group with 22 facilities in the Dallas/Fort-Worth area, was told that a "no hat" policy would prohibit her from wearing hijab. She was also reportedly informed that CareNow prohibits employees from wearing beards. (Many Muslim men view wearing a beard as a religious requirement.)
In an e-mail to CareNow's human resources department seeking confirmation of the denial of religious accommodation, the Muslim potential employee wrote:
"Being that I wear a head scarf to cover my hair as part of my religious practice, I felt very discriminated against. I have worked in many places that have a 'no hat' policy, and I have never been confronted with a problem regarding my head scarf. I can't imagine this being an issue with an organization like CareNow. Please confirm if this is really a policy at CareNow."
An e-mail response from CareNow stated that the Muslim doctor had been given the correct information about the medical group's denial of religious accommodation.
In a letter to CareNow, CAIR wrote:
"Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits employers from discriminating against individuals because of their religion in hiring, firing, and other terms and conditions of employment. The Act also requires employers to reasonably accommodate the religious practices of an employee, unless to do so would create an undue hardship upon the employer.CAIR has reviewed the facts of this case and determined that CareNow's staff did not make an exemption to the 'no-hat policy' to accommodate [the applicant's] religious practices, and thus is in direct violation of Title VII."
CAIR is asking CareNow to 1) offer the Muslim applicant a position for which she is qualified and to allow her to wear her Islamic head scarf, 2) provide the applicant with a formal written apology, 3) clarify CareNow's policy on religious accommodation issues and allow a religious exemption to the"no-hat" policy, 4) institute workplace sensitivity and diversity training for staff, and 5) compensate the Muslim applicant for the emotional distress she has suffered as a result of the discrimination.

Palin Wins, Scozzafava quits

The Arctic fox has the last laugh ............I am loving this! Newt is relegated to the dustbin of history and deservedly so. He turned long ago. Enough with the old, in with the true!

Scozzafava drops out of NY-23 special election

State Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava, the Republican candidate for the open 23rd District seat in New York, suspended her campaign today amid lagging poll numbers and lackluster fundraising. The move clears the way for Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, who had been gaining support from the national party and is in a dead heat with businessman Bill Owens (D), according to a Siena College poll out Saturday morning.

You ain't seen nuthin yet. Kicking the commies to da curb.

Throw the RINOs out. Olympia Snowe ... yer next!

UPDATE: Choi notes:

ACORN'S Candidate Suspending Her Campaign now, leaves her name on the Ballot and Absentee and Early Voting has already occured,WITH her name on the ballot.

This "Suspension " is BS,as she HAS DRAWN and STILL WILL Draw Anti-Democratic Votes that should be Hoffman's.

Did she FILE some type of Legal Paper that is WORTHLESS anyway at this point in time as the DATE OF WITHDRAWAL is Long Past This is Democratic Last minute BS at it's "Finest" and proof the Dems controlled the Republican Nomination Process and her campaign.

They know it's TOO LATE. Can't postpone a General Election because ONE Candidate 'Suspends' her campaign less than 72 hrs before the polls open.

Can't RE-PRINT Ballots and Re-Program Electronic Voting Machines to NOT include her votes,CAN'T Disenfranchise those who ALREADY Voted Absentee and "Early Voting",etc. They have a plan afoot and THIS is Part of it.

Michele Bachmann's Statement on Dede Scozzafava in NY-23: GOP House Leaders Endorse Doug Hoffman!

The ultra liberal Scozzafava was backed by ACORN racketeering arm - The Working Families Party.
There is a new website devoted to exposing the corruption, skulduggery and illegal activity of The Working families party. Go here to Nutbusterz.

UPDATE: Palin on the Dee Dee dump.

A Time to Unite Today at 6:18pm

I want to personally thank Republican Dede Scozzafava for acting so selflessly today in the NY District 23 race. Now it's time to cross the finish line with Doug Hoffman so that he can get to work for District 23 and the rest of America.

With Congress poised to overhaul one-sixth of our economy with so-called health care "reform" (which is really a government takeover of health care) and with plans to enact a cap-and-tax bill just as our economy struggles to recover, Doug Hoffman will be a voice for fiscal responsibility and common sense in Washington.

We need candidates like Doug now more than ever. In these final days of the campaign, it's vital that Doug continue to receive the enthusiastic support of those who want to bring common sense to Washington. Let's help make it happen! You can help Doug by visiting his official website today and offering your support: https://www.doughoffmanforcongress.com/donate3.html - Sarah Palin

Secret Mission Rescues Yemen's Jews from Islamic Genocide

The unbounded and timeless Muslim capacity for Islamic anti-Semitic blood lust and death is one of history's consistent certainties. They are incapable of moving off the dime --
U.S. State Department officials are conducting a secret operation to bring some of Yemen's last remaining Jews to America to escape rising anti-Semitic violence in their country. The State department ..... wow.

The State Department took something of a risk in removing the Yemenis to the U.S., as it might be criticized for favoritism at a time when refugees elsewhere are clamoring for haven. The U.S. calculated the operation would serve both a humanitarian and a geopolitical purpose. In addition to rescuing a group threatened because of its religion, Washington was seeking to prevent an international embarrassment for an embattled Arab ally.

"Accused of favoritism by whom? The annihilationists?  The world has lost any construct of a moral compass.

The Wall Street Journal has the whole thing. Read it.

Yemen jews

Never discussed. Never criticized. Islamic persecution of non-believers worldwide is a pox on humanity. And the free world's refusal to speak of it is our great crime - accessory to genocide.

MONSEY, N.Y. -- In his new suburban American home, Shaker Yakub, a Yemeni Jew, folded a large scarf in half, wrapped it around his head and tucked in his spiraling side curls. "This is how I passed for a Muslim," said the 59-year-old father of seven, improvising a turban that hid his black skullcap.

The ploy enabled Mr. Yakub and half a dozen members of his family to slip undetected out of their native town of Raida, Yemen, and travel to the capital 50 miles to the south. There, they met U.S. State Department officials conducting a clandestine operation to bring some of Yemen's last remaining Jews to America to escape rising anti-Semitic violence in his country.

In all, about 60 Yemeni Jews have resettled in the U.S. since July; officials say another 100 could still come. There were an estimated 350 in Yemen before the operation began. Some of the remainder may go to Israel and some will stay behind, most in a government enclave.

Yemen was overshadowed in recent years by bigger trouble spots such as Afghanistan. But it has re-emerged on Washington's radar as a potential source of  regional instability and a haven for terrorists.

The impoverished nation is struggling with a Shiite revolt in the north, a secessionist movement in the south, and growing militancy among al-Qaeda sympathizers, raising concern about the government's ability to control its territory. Analysts believe al-Qaeda operatives are making alliances with local tribes that could enable it to establish a stronghold in Yemen, as it did in Afghanistan prior to the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

"Accused of favoritism" by whom? The annihilationists?

President Saleh has been trying to protect the Jews, but his inability to quell the rebellion in the country's north made it less likely he could do so, prompting the U.S. to step in. The alternative -- risking broader attacks on the Jews -- could well have undermined the Obama administration's efforts to rally support for President Saleh in the U.S. and abroad.

"If we had not done anything, we feared there would be bloodshed," says Gregg Rickman, former State Department Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism.

Mr. Yakub says the operation saved his family from intimidation that had made life in Yemen unbearable. Violence toward the country's small remaining Jewish community began to intensify last year, when one of its most prominent members was gunned down outside his house. But the mission also hastens the demise of one of the oldest remaining Jewish communities in the Arab world.

Jews are believed to have reached what is now Yemen more than 2,500 years ago as traders for King Solomon. They survived -- and at times thrived -- over centuries of change, including the spread of Islam across the Arabian Peninsula.

"They were one of the oldest exiled groups out of Israel," says Hayim Tawil, a Yeshiva University professor who is an expert on Yemeni Jewry. "This is the end of the Jewish Diaspora of Yemen. That's it."

Centuries of near total isolation make Yemeni Jews a living link with the ancient world.

Many can recite passages of the Torah by heart and read Hebrew, but can't read their native tongue of Arabic. They live in stone houses, often without running water or electricity. One Yemeni woman showed up at the airport expecting to board her flight with a live chicken.

Through the centuries, the Jews earned a living as merchants, craftsmen and silversmiths known for designing djanbias, traditional daggers that only Muslims are allowed to carry. Jewish musical compositions became part of Yemeni culture, played at Muslim weddings and festivals.

"Yemeni Jews have always been a part of Yemeni society and have lived side by side in peace with their Muslim brothers and sisters," said a spokeswoman for the Embassy of Yemen in Washington.

In 1947, on the eve of the birth of the state of Israel, protests in the port city of Aden resulted in the death of dozens of Jews and the destruction of their homes and shops. In 1949 and 1950 about 49,000 people -- the majority of Yemen's Jewish community -- were airlifted to Israel in "Operation Magic Carpet."

About 2,000 Jews stayed in Yemen. Some trickled out until 1962, when civil war erupted. After that, they were stuck there. "For three decades, there were no telephone calls, no letters, no traveling overseas. The fact there were Jews in Yemen was barely known outside Israel," says Prof. Tawil.

Salem

Salem Suleiman, a Yemeni who recently arrived in New York, says "They throw stones at us. They curse us. They want to kill us."
Mr. Nahari, far left, who was murdered in December 2008, and Said Ben Yisrael, second from left, whose house was firebombed, danced at a wedding celebration in Raida in 2007.

The Yemen Jewish community is one of the oldest remaining in the Arab world -- a fixture in the area for two millennia. At left, a Yemeni Jewish boy stands in front of his school bus.

Muslim Kidnapping in the Netherlands

Remember this choker of a story when they talk of the reunification of Rifqa with her devout Muslim family: From Atlas reader Nans in The Netherlands:

The main contact is that Child Protective Services (in Dutch: "Kinderbescherming") is worried about arranged marriages by muslims. Here is the example of a 13 year old girl who was married by an imam in the mosque (which is illegal in two ways: the age of the girl, but marriages here have to take place in city hall) , and subsequently raped by her "husband". She ran away and then Child Protective Services moved in and placed her back with her parents. Now she is missing and the local director in The Hague of Child Protective Services now publicly regrets their efforts. The case was discussed recently in parliament.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner: Soros, Ayers, Acorn, SEIU - White House Coup

Show me who he hangs with and I'll show you who (and what) he is.

Sammy writes:

The White House has been barraged with requests to release the names of its visitors. Today they release the first 500 visits, all from the period of Jan 20-July 31.

Some of the Names you can find on the list are Bill Ayers 2x, George Soros 4x, Michael Moore 8X, the head of the ACORN affiliated Union the SEIU Andrew Stern 20x,Jeremiah Wright, GE/NBC head Jeff Immelt 5x, Jesse Jackson 6x, John Edwards2x, Al Sharpton 2x, and of course television goddess Oprah Winfrey.

Strangely each party's house leader Pelosi, and Boehner were only at the WH once. The Senate leadership weren't there even once. I will be spending some time investigating the list, but in the meantime, an embeddable version of the list is below.

Classroom apartheid: Teachers who were afraid to discipline thuggish minority of Muslim pupils for fear of being branded racist

Muslim thugs terrorize classrooms. These "students" with their claw hammer weapons and their mobile phones with the World Trade Centers burning screensavers. Well, why not? It is all part of the global jihad.

He gave his name as Henry Webster when he stepped into the witness box at the High Court in London last week. But he wasn't the Henry Webster his family and friends remember.

The real Henry Webster was a strapping 6ft 2in rugby player, not someone who struggled to string sentences together and had to be given painkillers to complete his evidence.

Instead of preparing for college or university, he has been left with learning difficulties, short-term memory loss, and epilepsy. Henry will settle for that because the alternative would have meant not being here at all.

Henry with his mother Elizabeth Webster at court where he is fighting to win damages from Ridgeway Foundation School

Victim: Henry Webster with his mother Elizabeth Webster at court where he is fighting to win damages from Ridgeway School in Swindon

This is the only upside of being attacked with a claw hammer that left an inch-deep impression on his skull.

One claw hammer and 12 teenage [Muslim] thugs versus one young man. Those were the odds when a gang of Asian Muslim youths ambushed him.

After their work was done, his attackers punched the air in triumph - 'that's what you call Paki bashing,' they yelled.

The thugs have all been jailed. Not all the culprits, however, have been brought to book - not in the eyes of Henry's family, anyway. They believe teachers at his school, near Swindon - where the assault took place in 2007 when Henry was just 15 - are as guilty as the actual perpetrators themselves.

Why? Because, they say, the school allowed ethnic minority pupils to get away with flagrant misbehaviour, and then handed them less severe punishments than their white classmates because staff feared they might otherwise be accused of racism.

In other words, a culture of ' educational apartheid' prevailed in all but name at Ridgeway School.

Had this not been the case, Henry's parents insist, their son would probably not have sustained brain damage outside the school tennis courts one day in January nearly three years ago.

Wasif Khan, 18, outside Bristol Crown Court, where he is charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm on Henry Webster in an attack on a tennis court at Ridgeway School in Wroughton, Wiltshire
Amjad Qazi ,19, arrives at Bristol Crown Court. Amjad is one of the accused in the case of attacking Henry Webster

Thugs: Amjad Qazi (left) 19, and Wasif Khan, 18, were jailed for attacking Henry

They have now brought a civil action against Ridgeway and are seeking compensation of up to £1 million. The allegations amount to a devastating indictment not just of Ridgeway, but of policies that were supposed to lead to integration, not segregation, in our schools.

Our own investigation into the events which culminated in Henry Webster being left for dead within walking distance of his classroom does little to counter that view.

Remember, this is not some inner city hell hole. Swindon (population 200,000) is often used for market research purposes precisely because it is considered to be a typical British town; neither the best nor the worst place to live, just average.

Ridgeway School, too, is average. Only about 70 - 5 per cent - of the 1,400 or so pupils are from ethnic minorities.

Henry Webster

Ambushed: Henry was punched, kicked and hit repeatedly on the head with a claw hammer causing brain damage

Exam results are good, and the school continues to receive glowing government reports. Only last year, Ridgeway's headmaster Steven Colledge, who took over in September 2006, was praised by Ofsted inspectors as 'Outstanding' for his 'leadership and management' skills.

But anyone who saw his performance on Channel 4 News the day after Henry Webster was attacked might beg to differ.

'I think there is always a danger where there is a mixture of races and peoples which reflect the community we live in that any tension that might exist, any little scuffle or fight, can be twisted to be much more of a major thing than it really is,' he told the cameras.

No, this is not a misquotation. He really did use the words 'little scuffle' to describe the attack in which Henry Webster was left brain damaged.

Furthermore, in the immediate aftermath, neither the 'outstanding' Mr Colledge nor any of his colleagues visited the Webster family or even sent a get well card. Mr Colledge later told a governors' inquiry that gestures such as sending cards or flowers 'were not in his nature'.

Parents and former staff say that multiculturalism at Ridgeway, under his leadership, meant pupils on both sides of the religious and cultural divide breathing the same air but sharing very little else.

Asian Muslim youngsters, we have been told, had their own officially designated meeting room which, to all intents and purposes, became the unofficial base for a 30-strong crew known as the 'Asian Invasion' and the 'Broad Street Massive'.

Many, if not all 12, of those convicted of assaulting Henry belonged to the gang and lived mainly in the vicinity of Broad Street in Swindon. Four of them were still pupils at Ridgeway. They would often call older relatives and friends from outside school to settle disputes.

One such was Wasif Khan, then 18, who was the person who wielded the claw hammer. He was a 'wannabe militant', according to the police, and carried on his mobile phone a screensaver of the collapse of the World Trade Centre. A number of accomplices used social networking sites to communicate their message.

Obituary

We now have more people not paying taxes than paying them. Those people will continue to vote for those who want to give them more “entitlements” unless we decide to do something about it.

Born 1776, Died 2008

It does not hurt to read this several times.

Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning last November's Presidential election:

  • Number of States won by: Democrats: 19 Republicans: 29
  • Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000 Republicans: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million

Republicans: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:

Democrats: 13.2 Republicans: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Republicans won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country.

Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in low income tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegals and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

If you are in favor of this, then by all means, delete this message.

If you are not, then pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

That was the life that I used to know.

On August 23, 2009, I received a seasonal flu vaccine at a local grocery store that drastically, and potentially irreversibly, altered my future...

I offer Prepaid Legal and Identity Theft Shield to families looking to be prepared for unplanned legal events that come up in life and to protect entire famiies from Identity Theft. I am amazed how prevalent Identity Theft is and even have a nephew who a few months ago had his Identity stolen by a former employer. What a wake up call to someone who thinks stuff only happens out there to other people. This month it is now possible to cover children as well due to the prevalence of children's identities being stolen and it goes undetected until a child is older needing to enter into contracts, etc for purchasing a car or a lease on an apartment. Kroll is the number one company for Identity Protection and restoration if one's identity is taken. Kroll was responsible in a major way in bringing down Hussein in Iraq. Outlast the Aftermath and work together

Outlast the Aftermath and work together

shard from another survival group

Christopher Young

http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/worst_case_scenarios/4331486.html?page=4

Rule 4:
Outlast the Aftermath

Last September, hurricane Ike hit Texas near Houston. As a direct result of the storm, 48 people in Texas died.

the aftermath proved to be deadlier than the storm itself. As many as 64 post-storm deaths occurred in Texas because of factors such as carbon monoxide poisoning and electrocution. More than 1 million Texans were left without power. Municipal water systems were overwhelmed, and clean water was the next to go. Enormous lines formed at FEMA food centers, grocery stores and gas stations - which had no electricity to pump what little gas was left. That first weekend after Ike, some 37,000 Texans were holed up in shelters that ran short of food and water within 24 hours. The next few weeks brought countless scores of injuries from clearing debris.

Mark Vorderbruggen and several of his neighbors in the Houston suburb of Spring got to work cleaning up their neighborhood. The crew had organized before the storm by gathering all the two-way Family Radio Service walkie-talkies they could find and then distributing them among 14 occupied houses. They had already taken a quick inventory of residents with generators, chain saws and first-aid skills (one neighbor was a retired Army medic). The day before Ike hit, Vorderbruggen went door to door with four or five guys from the neighborhood, serving as an impromptu pickup crew, clearing yards of furniture, tools and anything else that might turn into a deadly missile in hurricane-force winds.

Thanks to his preparations, Vorderbruggen's house survived largely intact. But there was still plenty of debris to clean up in the neighborhood. He and his neighbors all pitched in to clean up every yard and sidewalk.

"We tend to extend help to others," says psychologist Andrew Shatté, "on the understanding that some 'other' will expend a few resources to save us." By working together, groups reduce the danger and stress to individuals. "Once their basic survival needs are met," says Shatté, "people instinctively reach out to help the community. They are more resilient and happier with their lives for doing so."

Aftermath of Ike was less like a disaster and more like a barbecue. The area was without power for five days, but the neighbors conserved resources by eating meals together at a different house each night to ensure that no food was spoiled. "We cooked on the grill, and I ran a small light off a battery-powered electric inverter," Vorderbruggen says. "I got to walk around in Hawaiian shirts and swim shorts for nearly a week. Cooking outside, clearing debris. It was actually kind of fun-for me."
