This is a miracle and an amazing story! Thanks to the milk of human kindness on this one:
When Carolyn Isbister put her 20oz baby on her chest for a cuddle, she thought that it would be the only chance she would ever have to hold her.
Doctors had told the parents that baby Rachel only had only minutes to live because her heart was beating once every ten seconds and she was not breathing.
Isbister remembers:
I didn't want her to die being cold. So I lifted her out of her blanket and put her against my skin to warm her up. Her feet were so cold.
It was the only cuddle I was going to have with her, so I wanted to remember the moment." Then something remarkable happened. The warmth of her mother's skin kick started Rachael's heart into beating properly, which allowed her to take little breaths of her own.
We couldn't believe it – and neither could the doctors. She let out a tiny cry.
The doctors came in and said there was still no hope – but I wasn't letting go of her. We had her blessed by the hospital chaplain, and waited for her to slip away. But she still hung on.
And then amazingly the pink color began to retur n to her cheeks. She literally was turning from gray to pink before our eyes, and she began to warm up too.
The sad part is that when the baby was born, doctors took one look at her and said 'no'.
They didn't even try to help her with her breathing as they said it would just prolong her dying. Everyone just gave up on her," her mom remembered.
At 24 weeks a womb infection had led to her premature labor and birth and Isbister (who also has two children Samuel, 10, and Kirsten, 8 ) said, "We were terrified we were going to lose her. I had suffered three miscarriages before, so we didn't think there was much hope." When Rachael was born she was grey and lifeless.
Ian Laing, a consultant neonatologist at the hospital, said: "All the signs were that the little one was not going to make it and we took the decision to let mum have a cuddle as it was all we could do.
Two hours later the wee thing was crying. This is indeed a miracle baby and I have seen nothing like it in my 27 years of practice. I have not the slightest doubt that mother's love saved her daughter."
Rachael was moved onto a ventilator where she continued to make steady progress and was tube and syringe fed her mother's pumped breastmilk.
Isbister said, "The doctors said that she had proved she was a fighter and that she now deserved some intensive care as there was some hope.20She had done it all on her own – without any medical intervention or drugs. She had clung on to life – and it was all because of that cuddle. It had warmed up her body and regulated her heart and breathing enough for her to start fighting.
At 5 weeks she was taken off the ventilator and began breastfeeding on her own. At four months Rachel went home with her parents, weighing 8lbs – the same as any other healthy newborn. Because Rachel had suffered from a lack of oxygen doctors said there was a high risk of damage to her brain. But a scan showed no evidence of any problems and today Rachel is on par with her peers.
Rachel's mom tells us, "She is doing so well. When we brought her home, the doctors told us that she was a remarkable little girl. And most of all, she just loves her cuddles. She will sleep for hours, just curled into my chest. It was that first cuddle which saved her life – and I'm just so glad I trusted my instinct and picked her up when I did. Otherwise she wouldn't be here today."
When a parent holds their baby on their chest, skin-to-skin, it is referred to as Kangaroo Mother Care.
The ben efits for all babies of KMC are that they stabilize faster with skin-to-skin care than in an incubator (very few stabilize in an incubator well during the first six hours of life). KMC babies also have stable oxygen rates and breathing thanks to the steady regulation of Mother's respiration. The heart rate is stable (mother's heartbeat regulates baby's heartbeat). The temperature is most stable on the mother – in skin-to-skin care mothers chest automatically warms to warm a cold baby, and mothers core temperature drops if her baby has a temperature.
Sleeping within an arm's reach of baby (as long as a parent does not smoke) also regulates all of his physiological needs in the same way ~ they are kept steady thanks to Mom's warm, even-paced body. We lose far fewer babies to prematurity, irregularity of breathing or heartbeat after birth, and SIDS all with the natural help of skin-to-skin holding, or Kangaroo Care.
There have been a good number of lies circulated by big media to counter what has recently been discovered about the Bary family finances. Today we saw the Orlando Sentinel paint the "doting father" - here is what Renee the rube reporter wrote in the Orlando Sentinel:
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Mohamed Bary is a doting Muslim father, intent on giving his daughter the best education he can. But he says he made a terrible mistake last October: He bought her a laptop computer.
A source very close to Rifqa told me that Rifqa bought that computer out of her own money. It is so interesting (and disgusting) that the 'doting' dad is now claiming he should have never bought the computer.
I am hearing that the Bary parents have a new legal team. Who is paying for that?
Rifqa told the judge she'd been a Christian for four years. Her parents learned of her conversion a year ago — and that she had kept her new faith a secret from them. She proclaimed herself a Christian on her Facebook page in 2007.
People who know the Barys say Rifqa's allegations are crazy.
So these "people" say Rifqa is "crazy". Would you send Rifqa back to a town where they say she is crazy?
"There is no way this man would hurt his daughter," said Neil Javery, 52, a Hindu and family friend in Westerville, the Columbus suburb where the Barys live. [...] Away from home, though, Rifqa was open about her faith. She gathered with other students for "See you at the Pole," an annual prayer service held at schools around the country. Until about three months ago, she attended a youth group at the tiny Korean United Methodist Church in Columbus.
She carried a Bible to class. That upset her parents, who told her they were afraid — not that she had converted to another faith but that she'd get in trouble for violating the separation of church and state.
The devout parents were worried about the separation of church and state? Say what? And if it was so "safe" for Rifqa to practice her Christian faith, why did she run? Why did she spend 20 hours on a bus? Why would she speak of such abuse?
When Rifqa was born, her family was wealthy and lived in Galle, Sri Lanka. They owned a large house and enjoyed the benefits of a driver, a cook and a maid.
Rifqa was a tiny newborn, just 5 pounds, and very quiet, Aysha Bary said. When Rifqa was 5, she fell onto a toy airplane. It left her blind in the right eye.
This story is a lie. She did not fall.
Her father insisted she get medical care in the United States. He feared her care would mean a long separation from his wife and son, so he moved the family to Queens, N.Y., in 2000.
In 2004, he moved them to the Columbus area because of its excellent public schools.
By the time the Barys moved here, though, they were no longer wealthy. Two months after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Mohamed Bary was on a business trip, flying with a bag of gems, as he often did. This time, the airline ordered him to check the bag. It was lost. It contained nearly $400,000 worth of jewels, said David Leung, 48, of Worthington, Ohio, a close family friend. Financially, the family has not recovered, he said.
Here is the same amount being cited in Mohamed Bary's application to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services. His application was denied. I wonder why.
The Barys live in a small, two-bedroom apartment and own one car, an 11-year-old Honda station wagon that has 225,000 miles on it.
A week ago, Rifqa's parents and brothers, ages 5 and 18, climbed into that car and drove 16 hours to Orlando for a court hearing. They had hoped the judge would order Rifqa back to Ohio.
What judge would order a child back to such a dangerous situation?
But by then thousands of people had seen Rifqa on YouTube, crying and saying that her father, because he is a Muslim, has no option but to kill her for abandoning Islam. Gov. Charlie Crist's office received hundreds of e-mails — much of it anti-Muslim — urging him block her return to Ohio.
Anti-Muslim as opposed to life saving. How low will these trolls go?
He did not, but he sent his general counsel, Rob Wheeler, and DCF Secretary George Sheldon to the Aug. 21 hearing. While they sat watching, a DCF lawyer asked the judge to put off a decision on returning Rifqa to Ohio until Sept. 3. He did.
DCF also asked the judge to let the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigate whether Rifqa's father and other Muslims in Columbus are a threat to her. The judge said yes to that, as well.
FDLE agents and child welfare workers inspected the family's home and questioned Rifqa's parents last week.
"I'm happy they came," her father said. "We have nothing to hide."
He and his wife are modern Muslims, he said. Now, during the holy month of Ramadan, a time of prayer, they eat nothing between sunrise and sunset. Until this year Rifqa fasted with them.
Their prayers this year, her father said, are that Rifqa will come back to them.
"We want our daughter back home," he said. "She can practice whatever religion she wants."
Salam al-Marayati of the Muslim Public Affairs Council, a thoroughly unpleasant character with whom I have appeared on many radio shows (on which he invariably likens me to Osama bin Laden, although I have never flown any planes into buildings, beheaded anyone, or exhorted anyone to do so), attacks Rifqa Bary, the seventeen-year-old girl who converted from Islam to Christianity and fled from her home and father after he threatened to kill her (as she explains here), and her supporters in a contemptuous, dishonest, condescending and arrogant piece at the Huffington Post, "Rifqa, the Reverand [sic] and Apostasy" (August 18).
Hugh Fitzgerald and Andy Bostom have already weighed in on this utterly contemptible article, but I have a few things to add.
Al-Marayati is intent on impugning Rifqa's own testimony in favor of her father's protestations that he does not intend to kill her -- and indeed, it is her word against his, and the only price we will have to pay if al-Marayati turns out to be wrong is a murdered teenage girl. To support his case, al-Marayati makes essentially two points, both encapsulated in this sentence: "Mohamed Bary allowed his daughter to become a cheerleader and says she can practice any faith she wants -- clearly, he is not a fundamentalist."
His first point is thus that Mohamed Bary, by allowing his daughter to prance around in skimpy cheerleader costumes, clearly was not the sort to insist on the finer points of Islamic law like the death penalty for apostasy (which al-Marayati implies does not exist anyway, so it's hard to see why it would be a feature of "fundamentalism" in the first place). However, honor killing victims in the West have invariably been girls who have been Westernized, adopting Western non-Muslim mores to the growing dismay of their male relatives. Al-Marayati's point is that if Mohamed Bary were a "fundamentalist," he would not have allowed Rifqa to become Westernized in the first place. Real life, however, is not always that simple. Honor killing victims like Amina and Sarah Said in Texas and Aqsa Parvez in Canada appear to been quite Westernized for a considerable period before their relationships with their fathers reached a tipping point, and they were murdered. Rifqa Bary fled before that could happen, but the fact that she was a hijab-less cheerleader indicates nothing. Pamela Geller explains further in responding to the same claim from Mike Thomas of the Orlando Sentinel:
Victims are generally beautiful, Westernized, and dressed in a manner that perhaps Thomas would term "provocative." Muslim girls who live in the West lead two lives. Amina and Sarah Said, allegedly murdered by their father in Texas on New Year's Day 2008 for having non-Muslim boyfriends, were honor students, star athletes, soccer players, tennis players, etc. Rifqa was the same way in Ohio before she fled. These girls led double lives. The murder always happens when the family sees they have lost control of the child.
Al-Marayati's second point is that, contrary to Rifqa's own claim, the Qur'an says nothing about killing apostates:
She claims that her parents "love God more than me" and therefore have to perform an honor killing on her. She argues "it's in the Quran". No it's not, sweet little Rifqa. It's not in the Quran. Whoever told you that is either ignorant or a liar. You should look it up yourself before claiming it's in the Quran.
Rev. Lorenz is then quoted in a local television station report saying that if a Muslim leaves his religion and does not return to Islam in a couple of days, then he must be killed. He claims that someone showed him the verse. There is no such verse, Rev. Lorenz. In every faith, apostasy is shunned but ultimate judgment is left to God, not people.
Two things are being confused here: honor killing and the death penalty for apostasy. Honor killing is not discussed directly in the Qur'an, although it is given strong implicit support by 18:74, 80-81, when the mysterious figure known in Islamic tradition as Khidr, traveling with the prophet Moses, kills a young man Moses terms "innocent" (18:74). Khidr explains: "And as for the lad, his parents were believers and we feared lest he should oppress them by rebellion and disbelief. So we desired that their Lord would give them in exchange (a son) better in purity (of conduct) and closer in affection." The young man is murdered because he is an unbeliever, so that his parents may be given a believing child in exchange. (Why the unbelieving son has to be killed before the believing son can be given to them is not explained.) Thus the precedent is set: a child who is an unbeliever is killed for his unbelief.
The death penalty for apostasy is found more directly in the Qur'an -- Islamic authorities generally root it in two Qur'anic verses, 2:217 and 4:89, as Hugh has noted. Here is 2:217:
They ask thee concerning fighting in the Prohibited Month. Say: "Fighting therein is a grave (offence); but graver is it in the sight of Allah to prevent access to the path of Allah, to deny Him, to prevent access to the Sacred Mosque, and drive out its members." Tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter. Nor will they cease fighting you until they turn you back from your faith if they can. And if any of you turn back from their faith and die in unbelief, their works will bear no fruit in this life and in the Hereafter; they will be companions of the Fire and will abide therein.
What does it mean that the works of those who "turn back from their faith and die in unbelief" will "bear no fruit in this life" as well as in the next? Let's go for an answer to the Tafsir al-Qurtubi, a classic and thoroughly mainstream exegesis of the Qur'an. About 2:217, Qurtubi says this:
Scholars disagree about whether or not apostates are asked to repent. One group say that they are asked to repent and, if they do not, they are killed. Some say they are given an hour and others a month. Others say that they are asked to repent three times, and that is the view of Malik. Al-Hasan said they are asked a hundred times. It is also said that they are killed without being asked to repent.
Did you notice one option that Qurtubi never mentions? That's right: he never says anything like "some say the apostate should not be killed." The only point of contention seems to be how long the Muslim must wait before he kills the apostate.
Meanwhile, 4:89 says this:
They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they). But take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (from what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their ranks.

Join me tonight at 7 pm on BTR Atlas Radio for my one on one with Ambassador Dore Gold. His latest, The Rise of Nuclear Iran: How Tehran Defies the West, is riveting. Atlas readers know all too well the consequences of a nuclear Iran. Our children and their children will hate us for doing nothing as they are held nuclear hostage to savages and pious fundamentalists. Get the inside Israel perspective from the renowned and brilliant Ambassador Gold. I will be anxious to hear Gold's perspective on Obama's mullah friendly presidency and the new chill in US/Israel relations.
You can call in. The number is (347) 996-3944. Join us for some enlightening and frightening conversation.
Former U.N. Ambassador Dore Gold shows why engaging Iran through diplomacy is not only futile, but also could be deadly. In the West, liberal politicians and pundits are calling for renewed diplomatic engagement with Iran, convinced that Tehran will respond to reason and halt its nuclear weapons program. Yet countries have repeatedly tried diplomatic talks and utterly failed. In The Rise of Nuclear Iran, Gold examines these past failures, showing how Iran employed strategic deception and delay tactics to hide its intentions from the West. He argues that Western policymakers underestimate Iran's hostility toward us and explains why diplomacy will continue to backfire, no matter which party or president is in power.
If we stay on the path we're on....Get ready for the Ayatollahs to have the bomb.
That's the stark warning of Dore Gold, Israel's former ambassador to the United Nations and author of the New York Times bestseller Hatred's Kingdom. Diplomatic engagement with Iran, Gold warns, has never worked. Iran has pursued its nuclear ambitions at first in secret and then in defiance of the United Nations and Western protests--and it will not be stopped by Western diplomats waving olive branches and offering promises of aid or threats of sanctions. In The Rise of Nuclear Iran: How Tehran Defies the West, you'll learn:
* Why a nuclear Iran could lead to a "terrorist bomb" * Why the Arab world, as much as Israel, fears a nuclear Iran * How Iran takes advant age of Western diplomacy * The radical theology of the current Iranian regime--and its apocalyptic goals * Iran's not-so-secret hegemonic aspirations for the Middle East, Islam, and even the rest of the world

Man, I wish he had been president. A real American, a real man with a real set. Bush went so soft his moral center disintegrated. How could he leave the impending nuclear crisis in the hands of .... Obama?
Former Vice President Also Criticizes CIA Probe as Political Move
WASHINGTON -- Former Vice President Dick Cheney hinted that, in the waning days of the Bush administration, he had pushed for a military strike to destroy Iran's nuclear-weapons program.
Fox News Sunday
"I was probably a bigger advocate of military action than any of my colleagues," Dick Cheney said, regarding Iran and its nuclear ambitions.
In an interview on Fox News Sunday, Mr. Cheney described himself as being isolated among advisers to then-President George W. Bush, who ultimately decided against direct military action.
"I was probably a bigger advocate of military action than any of my colleagues," Mr. Cheney said in response to questions about whether the Bush administration should have launched a pre-emptive attack prior to handing over the White House to Barack Obama.
"I thought that negotiations could not possibly succeed unless the Iranians really believed we were prepared to use military force," Mr. Cheney said. "And to date, of course, they are still proceeding with their nuclear program and the matter has not yet been resolved."
Mr. Cheney's views were at odds with those of other top officials at the time. Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, had said repeatedly during those final months that a strike against Iran would make the Middle East more unstable and would raise the risk on American forces in neighboring Iraq and Afghanistan.
More unstable. So this is stable?
"This is a very unstable part of the world, and I don't need it to be more unstable," Adm. Mullen said in July 2008.
The Cheney interview focused mostly on Attorney General Eric Holder's naming of a special prosecutor to assess whether, during the Bush administration, Central Intelligence Agency interrogators' harsh questioning of terror suspects illegally exceeded the guidance of Justice Department lawyers.
Mr. Cheney said the legal review set a "terrible precedent" that would shatter morale at the CIA and increase the likelihood of future terror attacks. He accused President Obama of using the threat of criminal charges to score political points with the left wing of the Democratic Party.
"It's clearly a political move; there's no other rationale for them to be doing this," the former vice president said of the Obama administration review.
Mr. Cheney was particularly critical of Mr. Obama's statement that he had not influenced the attorney general's decision, and charged the president with waffling on his earlier pledge not to unearth old allegations. "I think he's trying to duck the responsibility for what's going on here, and I think it's wrong," Mr. Cheney said of the president.
Just for the record, Rifqa had no laptop when she converted four years ago.
Rifqa Bary says: "And I had a laptop and he took that laptop and waved it in the air and he was about to beat me with it, and he said, 'If you have this Jesus in your heart, you're dead to me. You're not my daughter.' And I refused to speak but he said, 'I will kill you. Tell me the truth.' In these words, bad words, cuss words. So I knew that I had to get away.
The deception to cover and advance Islam is staggering over at the dhimmi Sentinel. Decrying Christian extremists and diabolical laptops, everyone and everything is to blame, but Islam and the laws mandating the death penalty for apostasy are never called into question. This is Nazi propaganda.
And this is the case they are going to make to the courts. There is a reason such trash is being printed. The Huffington Post printed a giant lie about apostasy today in regards to Rifqa (look for Spencer's piece later on that).
Let me first digress and dispense with Al-Maryati's crudely unsophisticated taqiya [3]. Yes, despite Al-Maryati's denial, apostasy is mentioned in the Koran—Koran 4:89 [4] most prominently—and the punishment is death, as noted for example by two of the most important classical Koranic exegetes, Baydawi and Ibn Kathir, in their commentaries on this verse. Al-Maryati's crude taqiya fully ignores the fact that punishment by death for apostasy from Islam is firmly rooted in all the most holy Muslim texts—both the Koran, and the hadith—as well as the sacred Islamic Law (the Shari'a). Koran 4:89 [4] states, "They desire that you should disbelieve as they have disbelieved, so that you might be (all) alike; therefore take not from among them friends until they fly (their homes) in Allah's way; but if they turn back, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them, and take not from among them a friend or a helper." (Andrew Bostom)
When it comes to the welfare of a minor child, you err on the side of caution. But not according to the shills in the media. This has nothing to do with years of abuse and shariah law; the laptop made her do it. Anyone, anything, but never dare speak ill of Islam
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Mohamed Bary is a doting Muslim father, intent on giving his daughter the best education he can. But he says he made a terrible mistake last October: He bought her a laptop computer.
Because of that laptop and access to the Internet, he says he lost his daughter to Christian extremists.
If that were true, why would she make up all that stuff? And if he is so doting, why would she run away at all? And if she is such a Christian, she wouldn't lie so. Lying is not part of Christianity. There is no taqiya in Christianity.
"I still cannot believe she would think that," he said.
But somebody planted that idea in her head, and he is convinced it was someone she met on the Internet.
Facebook, an online social network in which users select "friends" from anywhere and everywhere, is where Rifqa met Blake and Beverly Lorenz, the Orlando husband-and-wife minister team who took her in after she ran away.
In the weeks before she fled, her parents noticed she would sleep all day and stay up all night exploring the Internet.
Until this spring, Rifqa was a model student, an obedient daughter. She earned good grades, worked part-time at a Chinese restaurant and called home even if she were running just 10 minutes late.
But about the time school ended in May, she began all-night Facebook sessions. She started withdrawing from family members and longtime friends, her parents said.
Many of her chats were with evangelical Christians, her father said. They turned her against him, he said.
People who know the Barys say Rifqa's allegations are crazy.
"There is no way this man would hurt his daughter," said Neil Javery, 52, a Hindu and family friend in Westerville, the Columbus suburb where the Barys live.
Aysha Bary is a stay-at-home mom who speaks little English but breaks into tears over what has happened.
What about the business she runs? Why no mention of Custom Bridal Veil?
"My heart goes out to them," said Holly Easton of Plain City, Ohio, who owns a wedding gown business and pays Rifqa's mother to stitch beads onto gowns. "It's horrible. ... I hope they're able to reconcile, and she comes home and they can be a family again."
The Barys are not radical Muslims, friends and associates say. Their household is as normal as any other.
"It's just typical," Easton said. "Kid comes in, looks at parents, rolls her eyes and goes upstairs."
How would Easton know? Do we take some plant's word over Rifqa? Read the whole bloody mess so you can see what Rifqa and, frankly, the whole of the West is up against.

Gee you go on vacation for a few days and weird things start happening. The New York Times reported that public health officials in the Center For Disease Congto (CDC) are considering promoting routine circumcision for all baby boys born in the United States to reduce the spread of H.I.V., the virus that causes AIDS.
The topic is a delicate one that has already generated controversy, even though a formal draft of the proposed recommendations, due out from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by the end of the year, has yet to be released.
Experts are also considering whether the surgery should be offered to adult heterosexual men whose sexual practices put them at high risk of infection. But they acknowledge that a circumcision drive in the United States would be unlikely to have a drastic impact: the procedure does not seem to protect those at greatest risk here, men who have sex with men.
Recently, studies showed that in African countries hit hard by AIDS, men who were circumcised reduced their infection risk by half. But the clinical trials in Africa focused on heterosexual men who are at risk of getting H.I.V. from infected female partners.
This is sure to start a huge fight, as the government already has most of us by the..well you know: Meanwhile, critics of the recommendation said it subjects newborn boys to “medically unnecessary” surgery without their consent.
But Dr. Peter Kilmarx, chief of epidemiology for the division of HIV/AIDS prevention at the CDC, told the Times that any step that could stop the spread of HIV must be given “serious consideration.”
“We have a significant HIV epidemic in this country, and we really need to look carefully at any potential intervention that could be another tool in the toolbox we use to address the epidemic,” Kilmarx told the newspaper. “What we’ve heard from our consultants is that there would be a benefit for infants from infant circumcision, and that the benefits outweigh the risks.”
I am not sure about that because when I had my circumcision when I was 8-days-old it effected me so much, I couldn't walk for a year.
But the issue goes way beyond a baby or an adult male taking a little off the top, it may end up being a matter of personal freedom. As Reason online argues:
Newborn circumcision rates are at 65 percent but have dropped for decades since just after World War II, when they were at more than 80 percent. This might be partially attributable to immigration of non-circumcising populations. There are also various movements afoot that question both the health benefits and the morality of slicing a newborn.
I do not possess any ironclad opinion on the topic of circumcision—and perhaps not so coincidentally, I also do not have a son. Many of you, I assume, are foreskin-neutral.
Studies suggest that circumcision can help prevent HIV, though it has not shown to help those with the greatest risk, men having sex with men. One also suspects—or perhaps hopes—that ancient cultures simultaneously concocted the circumcision ritual because, through some instinctual trigger, they sensed it was hygienically beneficial.
Here's the problem: Why is the CDC launching campaigns to "universally" promote a medical procedure? If you're an adult (and nuts) or a parent, no one stands in your way of having a bris. Today 79 percent of men are circumcised already, and even if 100 percent were, the effect on the collective health of the nation would be negligible. If this is the standard, where does it stop?
And what would a proactive CDC mean if government operated health insurance? No, I don't believe Washington would deploy a phalanx of grinning, twisted doctors to perform coerced circumcisions. But when the CDC dispenses medical advice of the "universal" brand, it's difficult to accept that a government-run public insurance outfit wouldn't heed advice and act accordingly.
What if the CDC, through meticulous study, were to realize that circumcision is an entirely worthless procedure? Why would "we" waste $400 a pop? Would the CDC campaign to "universally remove" the operation from hospitals? Today, incidentally, government-run Medicaid doesn't pay for the procedure in 16 states. Most private insurers, on the other hand, do.
Though dismissed by public-option proponents, this is an example of how government persuasion can influence our decisions—first by nudging and then, inevitably, by rationing.
The larger, more pertinent point for today is that government has zero business running campaigns—and these things inevitably turn into scaremongering efforts—that try to influence our choices regarding our children and our bodies. Especially when the procedure has so little to do with society's collective health. Circumcision is a personal choice.
Well, a personal choice for everyone except that poor little sucker lying on the chopping block.
You must remember this, a bris is just a bris a sigh is just a sigh...
If Obama says he’ll stop doctors from enriching themselves through unnecessary tonsillectomies and amputations, that is an explicit call for government control of health-care delivery and the interference of government between patients and doctors. If the CDC — which is part of the same government that will control health care — decides that circumcision is beneficial and cost-efficient in the long term, that same mechanism would create pressure on doctors and patients to perform them.
You can’t have it both ways. The government that has the power to stop Tonsil Vultures and Foot Rustlers also has the power to pressure for greater numbers of circumcisions. The apparatus for that will be put in place, as Obama not only admits but brags.

At a town hall meetingon health care reform in South Sioux City this week, Senator Ben Nelson addressed a crowd of 100 or so constituents from northeast Nebraska.
The crowd was largely elderly, folks were friendly, but I could tell immediately that people wanted to get down to business. With health care reform occupying space in our newspapers, time on TV and radio, and conversations with our friends, families and co-workers, most of us have an idea of what we want to see from health care reform. And folks at Ben Nelson's South Sioux City town hall meeting were not afraid to ask for what they want.
People asked about developing electronic health records to avoid duplicating expensive medical tests, someone else wondered how we can bring enough doctors to rural areas to care for the increasingly elderly population. A retired nurse worried that we would pitch the existing health system instead of building on what is already working.
Most everyone, it seemed, had suggestions about where they want health reform to lead us.
Because so many voiced specific recommendations about what health care reform should do, I was surprised when about one-third of the room raised their hand when Sen. Nelson asked if anyone thought we should do nothing about health care.
This "do nothing" attitude is something I simply cannot agree with. The cost of doing nothing is too great for all us in rural America.
I'm convinced we need health care reform. Right now.
Last Wednesday, I had the opportunity to attend a town hall meeting in Omaha with Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson. Attendance was estimated at over 1,000 people. You can view the webcast of the event here.
I got to be one of the lucky 300 who were in the room with Sen. Nelson as he answered questions. In his opening statements, he said that his office has received over 100,000 letters this year, more than twice what he receive in all of 2008. The fact that people are so engaged on this issue is exciting to me, because this is how democracy is supposed to work - active citizens staying informed on important issues and holding elected officials accountable.
Most people's questions quickly revealed their political leanings, and Sen. Nelson did a good job of being frank, honest, and accurate in his answers and assessments. Health care is an emotional issue, and the Senator tried to calm people's anxieties as he responded to people's questions. I walked away feeling that Sen. Nelson is taking his job to represent the best interests of Nebraskans very seriously.
I was also impressed with the crowd. The media likes a good controversy, and so what we hear a lot lately is the disruptive behavior of a vocal few. But the folks in the room where by and large respectful of the diversity of opinions. The two outbursts were quickly quieted, not by Sen. Nelson's staff but by the other participants of the meeting who wanted to maintain respect for all present.
I have never been more impressed of my fellow Nebraskans.
I do have to say though that the media coverage of the town halls, and of the health care discussion overall, has been disappointing. The saying goes "If it bleeds, it leads" and in absence of blood, any garden variety controversy will do. The press coverage I've seen of the town halls overblows what's really going on - a few terse words exchanged becomes "a near riot".Nebraskans are more respectful than that.
The same day in Iowa, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack was also engaging citizens at the Iowa State Fair. (Hear an article and radio clip of the event)
While Sen. Nelson's meeting focused almost exclusively on health care, Secretary Vilsack spoke about a variety of issues, from rural development to climate change. On the issue of health care, he spoke of the need for reform by referencing the high number of rural Americans who are uninsured and said the "status quo for rural America is not acceptable".
Sec. Vilsack answered questions about the shrinking number of family farmers, the need to "level the playing field" for independent livestock producers and cited USDA hearing on the topic slated for January. He wants to put people to work building rural infrastructure and linking local people to local economic opportunities.
My colleage Matt Russell, owner of Coyote Run Farms and Drake Ag Law professor, said he was "impressed with the thoughtfulness and systems approach the secretary is taking. I'm confident the USDA is putting people and tools in place to capture opportunities"
All of this is to say that this summer seems to be the summer of political engagement for rural people, and I couldn't be happier.
By Sabrina Miller Sabrina Miller is a Young Adult Intern with the Rural Response Committee of the Nebraska United Methodist Conference. Her first in this series of blog posts is here.
My primary goal in speaking with people about health care is to create a space of respect, love, and open conversation, and let differing opinions exist while having exhilarating discussion. As I talked with folks in local churches about health care reform, similar topics continued to arise, and fear that reform would leave them without care.
Many were retired and comfortable with their Medicare insurance, and appreciated the personal relationship they were able to have with their health care providers. Some people were disconnected from the realities in their communities. One town in North Central Nebraska receives 70% of its hospital income from Medicaid alone, and many patients with Medicare or no insurance.
I encouraged participants to see a bigger picture: If you are Christian as I am, we must look beyond our personal needs and fear, and see how care can be provided for every person, each a temple of God.
Issue 1: Health Care is working for me, therefore it does not need to be reformed.I talked to people with employer provided insurance that paid well over $10,000 a year, and up to $18,000 including co-pays.While they receive the care they need, they pay very high amounts for it.
This system may be working for those who have good benefits and steady jobs, but the self-employed and individuals who work at small businesses which are the heart and savior of small communities suffer. They often cannot afford insurance, or if they do purchase it, pay higher costs and receive less reimbursement. This leads to medical debt, and neglect of preventive care.
And of course, I hope we will consider the needs of the 47 million Americans with no insurance at all, no longer a marginal number, but overwhelming in scope.
Issue 2: Uninsured individuals don't want insurance, or could afford it if they lived more frugally. This argument is invalid firstly to the Christian who wants to provide care for every person.Secondly, uninsured people are often families with full-time employment, some poor, but more and more frequently people who are simply not offered health care by their employer and feel they can't afford insurance which itself costs more than the poverty line income.
If you have to choose between health insurance and food or utilities, immediate needs must be met.Other people without insurance do not have it because of pre-existing conditions, like diabetes or a mental health issue. The people that need good health insurance are those least likely to have access to it.
In my next post, I'll explore other issues on this topic.
We get Harper's Magazine at my house. One of the regular features I enjoy is called Harper's Index, where they list a bunch of interesting statistics that are related and grouped together form a kind of story. This month's included these statistics:
Percentage change since 2002 in average premiums paid to large US health-insurance companies:+87%
Percentage change in the profits of the top ten insurance companies: +428%
Chances that an American bankrupted by medical bills has health insurance: 7 in 10
I've written before about the ridiculously high profits that health insurance companies earn by denying care to sick patients. One more reason we need health care reform - protection from corporations that can't tell the difference between right and wrong.
It is not right - I'd even go so far to say un-American - that we can have insurance whose very purpose is to cover us in an emergency and still have an unforeseen accident or illness ruin our financial lives. No one asks to get sick, but it still happens. It's time we stop the injustice.

Tell the USDA GE Frankenfoods & Nanotechnology Aren't Organic
Last week, we gave you news of a report issued by the USDA Foreign Agriculture Information Network, "The Unexplored Potential of Organic-Biotech Production," that argues "Governments should change their regulations to allow producers to gain organic certification for biotech crops grown with organic methods."
In May, we alerted you that the National Organic Standards Board was considering an official ban on nanotechnology in organic, but felt stymied by their concern that "Under the current definition, most nanotechnology would not fall into the category of excluded methods."
Please take action to (1) oppose the USDA's cynical attempt to promote genetic engineering as potentially organic and (2) push the National Organic Standards Board to take a strong stand against the use of nanotechnology in organic. Genetic engineering and nanotechnology aren't organic!
Despite 30,000 emails from Organic Bytes readers, and mounting global concern, government bureaucrats and the corporate media continue to gloss over the undeniable fact that massive factory pig and poultry farms are incubating deadly viruses that could cause catastrophic mutations in the so far mild Swine Flu Epidemic (H1N1/09). At the same time, media and health officials downplay the importance of safe and proven organic and holistic precautions - strengthening our immune systems with healthy organic food, medicinal herbs, homeopathic remedies, lifestyle changes, and stress reduction - while cheerleading for the likely ineffectual and hazardous Big Pharma vaccines currently being rushed to market.
OCA needs your (tax-deductible) donations to Promote Organics and Fight Factory Farms and GMOs. For the next week, every dollar you give will be matched by a generous grant from The Sky Factory in Fairfield, Iowa, a national sponsor of the OCA.
The Wall Street Journal Reports Vegetable Gardens Grow Employee Morale
Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported on a new trend in employee benefits: office gardens. According to Paul Teslak, a professor of organizational behavior and human resource management at the University of Maryland's Smith School of Business, a garden is a cheap and easy way for a business to:
While answering a question at a health-care forum, President Obama mentioned that he and the First Lady are looking into setting up a farmers market just outside the White House, to sell food from the White House garden or from local farmers:
"So, you know, Michelle set up that garden in the White House?
"One of the things that we're trying to do now is to figure out, can we get a little farmers' market outside of the White House - I'm not going to have all of you all just tromping around inside - (laughter) - but right outside the White House. (laughter)"
"That is a win-win situation. It gives suddenly D.C. more access to good, fresh food, but it also is this enormous potential revenue-maker for local farmers in the area...those kinds of connections can be made all throughout the country, and has to be part of how we think about health."
Cuba once pursued a highly industrialized, chemical-intensive, fuel-thirsty form of agriculture - not so different from the kind of farming that supplies most of the food in the US and Europe today. But after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1990, Cuba's oil, chemical fertilizer, and pesticide supply disappeared. Almost overnight, Cuba faced a major food crisis. Cuba by necessity had to go back to basics to survive - rediscovering low-input, self-reliant, organic farming.
Healthy Living and Lower Cholesterol with Indigenous Nopal
Greetings from Via Organica, an organic restaurant, store, farm and learning center in San Miguel de Allende.
One of the things OCA's Via Organica staff has learned working with organic-minded campesinos (small farmers) in Mexico are the tremendous health benefits of native organic plants and foods. Little known to most Americans (except for Latinos), for example, the nopal plant (prickly pear cactus) can lower cholesterol and prevent or treat diabetes, two of the most common health problems among Mexicans, and in fact all North Americans. Tasty and nutritious as a green vegetable ("nopalitos"), used as a type of flour in tortillas, or consumed as a nutritional supplement, the nopal cactus is an amazing plant, requiring no watering (cactus have the ability to absorb moisture from the air), no chemical fertilizers, nor pesticides. If you can't find them, ask your local coop or organic food store to carry nopal products.
Last week, we updated readers on our Whole Foods campaign, adding CEO John Mackey's opposition to health care for all to our list of complaints, which already included Whole Foods' opposition to workers' rights and the fact that only about 1/3 of its sales are of certified organic products.
While most of our readers want health care for all, a couple of readers expressed their support for Mackey's libertarian ideals of freedom and self-sufficiency.

Syngenta's Atrazine herbicide is routinely sprayed on non-organic corn crops, golf courses, and manicured lawns, but unfortunately laboratory experiments indicate that the popular weed killer causes horrific birth defects, low birth weights and menstrual problems - even at so-called "safe" concentrations meeting current federal standards. Atrazine is banned as a dangerous poison in the European Union, but still perfectly legal here in the land of chemical-intensive farms and cheap corn-derived junk food. LEARN MORE

There is mounting scientific evidence that factory-farming of chickens, pigs and cattle is incubating and spreading dangerous drug-resistant bacteria. The bottom line for seriously ill people who might die without antibiotics, is that these drugs no longer work as well as they used to, and may soon not work at all - largely thanks to corporate agribusiness and indentured politicians in Washington. Why is it that routinely feeding antibiotics to farm animals in Europe is banned, whereas it is still perfectly legal in the US? LEARN MORE

We first started raising chickens just so we could have fresh eggs every day. (Did you know the eggs in the store are over a week old by the time they make it into your own refrigerator?)
But once we discovered the many virtues of raising chickens - and the ease of doing so - we moved into raising 'meat birds', turkeys, guinea hens and more.
There are many reasons to raise your own chickens, but my first consideration in continuing to do so are for health reasons. (Do a little research online in the hormones, steriods and chemicals put into grocery store chicken and you'll likely switch too!)

Most readers who email me ask about the financial aspect of living in the country.
How will they find work? Should they start their own home based business? What opportunities are available?
For quite some time I consulted with and counselled many on their journey to say Good Bye to City Life and to find a way to afford their new lifestyle. Unfortunately there is no 'one size fits all' answer and I don't have as much spare time these days to find 'the' solution for every person.
Whether you choose to work in the country (for lesser pay than you'd make in the city), start your own business (always a smart move), or become an online entrepreneur - I have no doubt that you will find your way to life in the country.
I've created a series of articles on each aspect of affording the country lifestyle starting here:

Got Composting?
I have friends that spend the Spring and Summer in the garden - day in, day out.
I wish I had that kind of free time! I guess, because I don't, my gardens have never been as large and lush as some of my dedicated to gardening friends.
However, there's one thing I notice about every one of them - they all have more than one composter on their property and each will swear that what comes out of the composter is far superior to any commercial mix.
One of the small composting bins I've noticed is perfect for all of us. It's a tumbler - lightweight, spin twice a week, and compost is ready to be used in 1/10th of the usual waiting time.

Back in the 50's there was a well known radio host/comedian/song writer in Hollywood named Stuart Hamblen who was noted for his drinking, womanizing, partying, etc.
One of his bigger hits at the time was "I won't go hunting with you Jake,
but I'll go chasing women."
One day, along came a young preacher holding a tent revival. Hamblen had him on his radio show presumably to poke fun at him. In order to gather more material for his show,
Hamblen showed up at one of the revival meetings.
Early in the service the preacher announced, "There is one man
in this audience who is a big fake.." There were probably others
who thought the same thing, but Hamblen was convinced that he
was the one the preacher was talking about (some
conviction) but he was having none of that.
Still the words continued to haunt him until a couple of nights later he showed up drunk at the preacher's hotel door around 2AM demanding that the preacher pray for him! But the preacher refused, saying, "This is between you and God and and I'm not going to get in the middle of it." But he did invite
Stuart in and they talked until about 5 AM at which point
Stuart dropped to his knees and with tears, cried out to God.
But that is not the end of the story. Stuart quit drinking,
quit chasing women, quit everything that was 'fun.'
Soon he began to lose favour with the Hollywood crowd. He was ultimately fired by the radio station when he refused to accept a beer company as a sponsor. Hard times were upon him. He tried writing a couple of "Christian" songs but the only one that had much success was "This Old House", written for his friend Rosemary Clooney.
As he continued to struggle, a long time friend named John took him aside and told him, "All your truoubles started when you 'got religion,' was it worth it all?" Stuart answered simply, "Yes."
Then his friend asked, "You liked your booze so much, don't you ever miss it?" His answer was, "No."John
then said, "I don't understand how you could give it
up so easily..."
And Stuart's response was, "It's no big secret. All things are possible with God." To this John said,
"That's a catchy phrase. You should write a song about it." And as they say, "The rest is history."
The song Carl Stuart Hamblen wrote was "It Is No Secret."
"It is no secret what God can do. What He's done for others, He'll do for you.
With arms wide open, He'll welcome you. It is no secret, what God can do...."
By the way... the friend was John Wayne. And the young preacher who refused to pray for Stuart Hamblen? ...That was Billy Graham.

In my last blog post, I said that I'd post some links to summaries on the various health care bills floating in Congressional limbo. It's taken me a week, and while I'm still not satisfied with the results of my searches, here is what I came up with.
First, let's look at bill summaries. These reference various proposals - the Senate Finance Committee, the Senate Health Education Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, the House Tri-Committee (a fancy way of combining the Education and Labor, the Ways and Means, and the Energy and Commerce Committees), and President Obama's Principles for Health Reform - but don't actually make you read the legislation. Trust me when I say that is a blessing.
Don't be fooled by the title, 10 Reasons to Support the Health Care Reform Billsis no fluff piece. It cuts through the legal-ese and is full of references on what the bills contain and why these changes are needed
They have lots of other reports and summaries here
The Kaiser Family Foundation has a great online comparison tool to view the various health care reform proposals. While longer (and more technical), Kaiser still tries to use understandable language.
This link allows you to pick any number of the various proposals to compare side by side, and includes a wider variety than the one above. Also very helpful.
This link compares only the proposals that have passed out of their respective committees (the Senate HELP Committee and the House Tri-Committee)
Then the various committees also have their own summaries. They make for very dry reading, but if you can get through them they can also tell you what's in their proposal. I did not find one on the Senate Finance Committee page, probably because they haven't finalized their bill yet.
Finally, if you're a glutton for punishment, the entire House bill (called HR 3200) is online, accurate to July 14, 2009. I found it through this Congress.org link, but you can also access a very large PDF of it here.
I hope that through these links you can answer for yourself some of the concerns and questions you have about the bill.
Democracy works best when we can be presented with the legislation and make up our own minds instead of having someone suggest to us what to think with a clever sound byte.

They wanna inject you, infect you with the vaccine They say they protect but they reject your immunity And if you protest they arrest you and they lock you down Can't have people like that walkin' around
Contagious The truth is outrageous Don't you know the drug companies made this flu And if you're thinkin' you wanna evade this Then you gotta say this
Don't inject me Don't infect me Don't stick that needle in my arm and chemically wreck me
Don't inject me Don't infect me Don't stick that needle in my veins and medically wreck me
Don't use me Don't abuse me Don't push your medical lies and try to confuse me
Don't trick me Don't you dick me With that needle in ya hand don't you dare try to prick me
Don't you know the swine flu is made by man Pharmaceutical scam It's all part of the Big Brother population plan But the thing I don't understand is why they in Mexico City in an unmarked military van
They don't want you to see the remedies you can stop influenza with vitamin D for free Herbal medicine is all that you need But they can't charge a fifty dollar fee
Unless They inject you They infect you They stick that needle in your arm and chemically wreck you
They use you They abuse you They say they're saving your life while they really confuse you
All you parents grab your kids And shoot 'em up just like guinea pigs Inject your teens and your babies in the crib And when they get paralyzed That's when you realize There's no way to undo what you did
The big drug companies are makin' a killing Collectin' the billions and gettin' away like a James Bond villain cause they're willin' to do almost anything Just to make money with the flu vaccine

This intelligence saved lives and prevented terrorist attacks. These detainees also, according to the documents, played a role in nearly every capture of al Qaeda members and associates since 2002.The activities of the CIA in carrying out the policies of the Bush Administration were directly responsible for defeating all efforts by al Qaeda to launch further mass casualty attacks against the United States. The people involved deserve our gratitude. They do not deserve to be the targets of political investigations or prosecutions. President Obama's decision to allow the Justice Department to investigate and possibly prosecute CIA personnel, and his decision to remove authority for interrogation from the CIA to the White House, serves as a reminder, if any were needed, of why so many Americans have doubts about this Administration's ability to be responsible for our nation's security.
Those intrepid geniuses over at The Orlando Sentinel are working overtime! They haven't gotten off their fat asses and done any work, mind you. But they are running more ads, asking you to do their work for them again on the Rifqa Bary case -- especially the anti-Muslim angle, as opposed to the "save the girl's life" take.
May I recommend that my expert readers and pundits contact the vegetables and leftools at the O.S. and see if you can edumacate 'em some :)
6. RELIGION: Teenage Convert from Islam to Christianity Seeking Sanctuary -- Orlando Sentinel (FL)
I'm seeking expert insight (e-mail observations are welcome) regarding an Ohio teenager who ran away to Florida, saying she was afraid her father would kill her for converting from Islam to Christianity. She had been living with a husband/wife pastor team, whom she met through a prayer group on Facebook. They took her in after she ran away, rode a bus from Ohio and popped up unannounced in Orlando. I'm looking to discuss the prevailing issues of sanctuary, religious freedom, anti-Muslim bias, honor killings, jurisdiction, propriety of clergy housing a teenage runaway, etc. The full story is found at: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/orange/orl-bk-rifqa-bary-ohio-teen-runaway-082109,0,2812365.story Contact: Darryl Owens, dowens@orlandosentinel.com
UPDATE: Atlas Reader David H has more knowledge in his pinky toenail than all of the useful idiots at the Orlando Sentinel. David was responding to this editorial in the Orlando Sentinel
Mr. Thomas, your article asks a number of questions and also contains some inaccurate information. I will do what I can to address all the issues I take with it. First, I am not personally involved in the case with the exception of advocating the life liberty and pursuit of happiness for Rifqa Bary. I take the position of not returning Rifqa to her parents or Ohio based on 10 years of living and working with the officials and local populations in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan. I have also visited Jordan, Egypt and Kuwait for periods of three to four weeks.. I have taught Middle Eastern Studies at a government institution.
First, calling the struggle to protect Rifqa Bary a "Second Crusade" shows a lack of history as well as a lack of objectivity on your part. The Crusades were an attempt to retake land and sites sacred to Christianity that had been conquered and occupied by the Muslims since the 760's CE. To equate the attempts to retake those lands with genuine concern for a young lady's safety is ludicrous. The Crusades were bloody as were the wars wages by Muslims both prior to and following the Crusades. The efforts to safeguard Rifqa Bary are peaceful and with the intent to prevent bloodshed.
The claim that her father wants to murder Rifqa is a serious allegation and one that needs to be taken seriously by the authorities. If you look at the recent honor murders in the US, Canada and other countries you will find that in many cases there was no report of violence with the perpetrators' until the actual murder, so you have to ask yourself what prompted the murderous act? They all came about because a female member of the family crossed a line in Islam that demanded their death as punishment. In Islam the concept of shame holds the same significance as guilt does for Christians. Usually the attack occurs when something the female has done becomes public knowledge and this public "shame", whether it was filing for divorce, a pregnancy brought about by rape or public knowledge of a relationship with non-Muslims, no matter how innocent, is what sparks the murder.
In bringing up the Elian Gonzalez case you are incorrect. According to Federal law, once that child reached our shores, he was entitled to stay in the US. Elian was sent back by a Justice Department and Administration wanting to curry favor with the Marxist regime in Havana. Do you really think that Elian's father had a free choice in whether he asked for him to be returned or not? Your words used in the Terri Shiavo case shows your bias. Where was it proved that her mind was not working? The husband's lack of following his stated purpose for the settlement should at least have been cause for further scrutiny by the press, funny how no serious follow-up investigations occurred.
The stereotyping Mr. Thomas, is being done by you. You extrapolate the concern for Rifqa's life into an attack on all Muslims. Should all Christians now attack you, Rene Stutzman and the Orlando Sentinel for the "insult to all of Christianity" you have made in questioning the motives of the pastor and the alleged hatred that Christians bear for Muslims? Yet this is the rationale you use in saying that the concern for Rifqa's safety is an attack on all Muslims.
In your article I do not see any concern for Rifqa's safety whatsoever. You throw out her concerns due to your and most of America's ignorance or complicity with Islamic doctrine and values. If Rifqa was trying to get away from her family's strict Christian of Jewish beliefs (even there would be no threat to her life as you have admitted in your article) you would be championing her cause. Why is it in all of these proceedings you do not wish to possibly err on the side of caution? Do you not understand that the dictate to murder Rifqa is incumbent on every member of the Islamic community and not just her parents? You admit you do not know the Bary family dynamics, yet you are willing to risk Rifqa's life on your ignorance, how generous of you.
The state of Ohio has the 9th largest Muslim population in the US, following close behind Texas, Virginia, Michigan and Indiana. The Noor Islamic Center is a documented center of Jihadist support. If Ohio's public servants are so ignorant and inept that they can not perform the mental arithmetic to conclude that a community that hosts speakers who want to turn this country into an Islamic state with the possibility that they will also follow the other tenants of their doctrine, then those authorities DO need to be investigated. If you have not investigated the Noor Islamic Center and discovered their Jihadist ties, then shame on you.
As for the activities that Rifqa has been allowed to participate in at school: this is where each family has exercised leeway, at least in countries not ruled by Islamic governments. A vast number of Muslim men living in countries like the US do set different standards for their daughters' conduct. But once that line is crossed, the response is deadly. For the Said sisters in Texas, it was dating non-Muslim boys that prompted their father to shoot them and leave them dying in his cab on New Year's Eve two year ago. For Muzzammil Hassan it was his wife filing for divorce that caused the man who had founded a TV station dedicated to showing how moderate Muslims are, to chop off her head. Rifqa has alleged that her father threatened to murder her. Do you think that her father is going to come out and admit this freely? Especially when it is permissible for him in the Koran to lie to Non-Muslims?
According to Rifqa, her parent only recently found out about her becoming a Christian, again you are taking sides instead of presenting Rifqa's side of the story as well. You sarcasm is really inappropriate, your analysis one dimensional and your investigation non-existent. So I will help you a little. First, the Bary's have sold their jewelry business. Why would they choose this moment to liquidate their assets and have a ready reserve of cash on hand? Since Rifqa is a minor she can be taken back to Sir Lanka or another Muslim country and murdered there, where even if the father does turn himself over to the police, the sentence will be light. Rifqa could "run away again" and in fact be taken away by several young men from the Mosque, this time never to be heard from again. The sorrowful parents would then garner sympathy from the press and country about how they did everything possible but "that Christian cult must have taken her away". All you have to do is look at other murder cases which involve family members as the perpetrator or accessory, including those who have fooled authorities for months or years. A certain former policeman with deceased ex-wives and a missing wife comes to mind...
Comparing the followers of the Koran to Christians not following the dictates of the Old Testament is another false analogy. Christian doctrine for the most part does not follow most of the dictates of the Old Testament, not in the calendar, holidays, personal or congregational practices. There is nothing in western Christian teachings that calls for members of the faith to kill those who leave the faith certainly not in the New Testament and not in theological writings of mainstream Christianity for the last several hundred years. But killing apostates does exist in the Koran and in the teachings and commentaries throughout the history of Islam and are currently endorsed by Islamic Religious leaders and institutions around the world.. Evidence of its practice can be seen almost daily around the world if you care to look. Anything that can be seen as an affront to Islam can result in death, especially when it comes to women.
hear is an example: Last year in Pakistan three teenage girls announced that they would go to the magistrate and file proceedings that would allow them to marry whoever they wished. The mother and aunt walked with them to the magistrate. They were intercepted by an official car carrying the uncle and several men. All the women were shot and buried alive along the road. Their uncle is a member of the Benazir Bhutto's Pakistan Peoples' Party in Baluchistan Province. One of the PPP's MP in the national Parliament even spoke out in favor of the murders saying it was justified.
I am not saying every Muslim abides by the "dark saying of their faith". What I am saying is that those who attend Muslim controlled education have these ideas drilled into their heads to some extent. Whenever "shame" is brought to the family by a female, the inclination is to remove the stain from the family honor. This inclination is reinforced to the same extent that the larger Islamic community surrounds and exerts control over the family. This is the true danger of sending Rifqa back to Ohio, especially since the authorities are clueless as to what they are dealing with.
My question to you is where is your concern for Rifqa to be protected from Islamic religious teachings and does the rule of law apply to her rights as well? The rule of law has not prevented honor murders yet, just as it has not stopped murders for any other reason. Once the crime is committed, any concern or outrage will be too late to help the victim.
Bless these folks for documenting the vile Jew hatred that The Guardian happily hosts. That "publication" is a sewer for the worst kind of incitement to violence.
Well, cyber warriors have documented it all. And will do it daily. Evil unmasked! We love that.
CiF Watch Website Launched to Combat Antisemitism on the Guardian newspaper's 'Comment is Free' blog
New York, NY – August 24, 2009 – CiF Watch (www.cifwatch.com), a website dedicated to monitoring and exposing antisemitism on the Guardian newspaper's 'Comment is Free' blog, announced its launch this week.
Created to address the endemic problem of antisemitic discourse on the Guardian newspaper's 'Comment is Free' blog, one of the most popular mainstream blogs of its type, CiF Watch documents manifestations of antisemitism both "above the line" in the Guardian-approved articles and "below the line" in the post-moderated comment threads.
"The proliferation of antisemitism in mainstream media platforms has become a growing phenomenon as media outlets like the Guardian attempt to reinvent themselves in the online world" says Hawkeye, founder of CiF Watch. "CiF Watch has been launched as a consequence of the complete and utter failure of Guardian management to adequately confront the problem of antisemitism on 'Comment is Free', this despite the submission last year to the UK Parliamentary Committee Against Antisemitism of the report on antisemitism at 'Comment is Free' compiled by Jonathan Hoffman."
CiF Watch primarily functions as a blog that provides a platform for discussion of anti-Israel and anti-Jewish articles posted on 'Comment is Free', free from Guardian censorship. At the same time, CiF Watch features separate areas where antisemitic writings of both contributors and commenters alike are documented.
About CiF Watch
CiF Watch (www.cifwatch.com), dedicated to monitoring and exposing antisemitism on the Guardian newspaper's 'Comment is Free' blog, is a grassroots, unaffiliated group that strives to hold the Guardian newspaper accountable for proliferating antisemitism over the internet. The president signed into law a measure in April that designated Sept. 11 as a National Day of Service............
But 9/11 has become a brand name. A Republican campaign slogan. Propaganda of the lowest form. 9/11 has become 9/11 with a trademark logo. "9/11 TM" has sustained a president who long ago should have been dismissed, or impeached. It has kept him and his gang of financial and constitutional crooks in office without -- literally -- any visible means of support. "9/11 TM" has made possible the greatest sleight-of-hand in our nation's history.
On August 7, I alerted Atlas readers to Obama's 911 proclamation of his mandatory civilian service on 911, his private army -- the "Civilian Community Service Corps" on 9.11 in LaFayette Park. Very bad.
If you were considering going to DC for a 912 rally, please g0 and take family members. March for America.
911, what should be a somber day of mourning and reflection (on how the hell we got here), will be a day when Obama - in a celebratory mode - makes his big announcement. The whole thing is depraved. It's like telling a brutally raped victim that it was the best sex she ever had. Shame on the left. Shame on them.
The Obama White House is behind a cynical, coldly calculated political effort to erase the meaning of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks from the American psyche and convert Sept. 11 into a day of leftist celebration and statist idolatry.
This effort to reshape the American psyche has nothing to do with healing the nation and everything to do with easing the nation along in the ongoing radical transformation of America that President Obama promised during last year's election campaign. The president signed into law a measure in April that designated Sept. 11 as a National Day of Service, but it's not likely many lawmakers thought this meant that day was going to be turned into a celebration of ethanol, carbon emission controls, and radical community organizing.
The administration's plans were outlined in an Aug. 11 White House-sponsored teleconference call run by Obama ally Lennox Yearwood, president of the Hip Hop Caucus, and Liv Havstad, the group's senior vice president of strategic partnerships and programs.
Yearwood, who uses the honorific "Reverend" before his name, has been in the news in recent years, usually for getting arrested. After Democrats took back Congress, the rowdy activist was handcuffed outside a congressional hearing in September 2007 when Gen. David Petraeus was to testify. Yearwood told the "Democracy Now" radio program that he wanted to attend the hearing to hear Petraeus give his report. "I knew that when officers lie, soldiers die," he said.
On the Aug. 11 call, Yearwood and other leaders kept saying repeatedly that they wanted 9/11 to be used for something "positive," "forward-leaning," and "productive," said a source with knowledge of the teleconference.
The plan is to turn a "day of fear" that helps Republicans into a day of activism called the National Day of Service that helps the left. In other words, nihilistic liberals are planning to drain 9/11 of all meaning.
"They think it needs to be taken back from the right," said the source. "They're taking that day and they're breaking it because it gives Republicans an advantage. To them, that day is a fearful day."
A coalition including the unsavory left-wing pressure group Color of Change and about 60 far-left, environmentalist, labor, and corporate shakedown groups participated in the call. Groups on the call included: ACORN, AFL-CIO, Apollo Alliance, Community Action Partnership, Deep South Center for Environmental Justice, 80 Million Strong for Young American Jobs, Friends of the Earth, Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, Mobilize.org, National Black Police Association, National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, National Council of Negro Women, National Wildlife Federation, RainbowPUSH Coalition, Urban League, and Young Democrats of America.
Color of Change is the extremist racial grievance group that isn't happy that TV's Glenn Beck did several news packages on Van Jones, the self-described "communist" and "rowdy black nationalist" who became the president's green jobs czar after jumping on the environmentalist bandwagon. The White House may be behind a push to destroy Beck by convincing advertisers to stop buying time on his show. Jones was also on the board of the Apollo Alliance, a hard-left environmentalist group that is now running large chunks of the Obama administration. The group has acknowledged that it dictated parts of the February stimulus bill to Congress.
With the help of the Obama administration, the coalition is launching a public relations campaign under the radar of the mainstream media -- which remains almost uniformly terrified of criticizing the nation's first black president -- to try to change 9/11 from a day of reflection and remembrance to a day of activism, food banks, and community gardens.
"The organizing term is to 'go dark.' You don't tell the press, don't tell people you think will tell the press," said the source.
Of course, the annual commemoration of the 2001 terrorist attacks belongs to the entire nation, but President Obama and the activist left don't see it that way. They view the nationwide remembrance of the murder of 3,000 Americans by Islamic totalitarians as an obstacle to winning over the hearts and minds of the American people.
"When you criticize them, they are prepared to say, 'Did you want 9/11 to be another day of selling mattresses, like Presidents Day?" the source said. "They are truly trying to change the American mindset."
They view Sept. 11 as a "Republican" day because it focuses the public on supposedly "Republican" issues like patriotism, national security, and terrorism. According to liberals, 9/11 was long ago hijacked by Republicans and their enablers and unfairly used to bludgeon helpless Democrats at election time.
Who do these bastards think they are kidding?
The question is, if the President's policies are seditious, is it sedition? If a President is traitorous, is he guilty of treason?

Here is a "French" take on media malfeasance in the Rifqa Bary coverage. Nidra Poller responds to this Atlas post exposing the shills over at the Orlando Sentinel:
Dear Pamela, I wanted to give Amy Edwards a chance to reply to my letter before eventually forwarding a copy to you. But to my surprise and astonishment I received an "out of office" reply.
Rifqa Barry's case is going to be heard today, and the journalist who is "covering" it for the Orlando Sentinel isn't available until Monday. She asked people to send her information...and closed her doors and windows.
So here is the letter, which you are free to publish.
I understand that you have been covering the Rifqa Bary case. You claim that there have been exaggerations "on both sides." I assume that you don't know how these situations are handled in France.
We have the largest Muslim population of any western European country. France has made major concessions to Muslim demands on all levels while at the same time taking a firm stand on certain questions, such as the prohibition of hijab in public schools and government offices.
Both sides, you might say, are discontented. No matter how many accomodations made by French authorities, the Muslim Brotherhood is never satisfied . But liberated free-thinking Muslim French women are constantly urging the government to offer greater protectionagainst extremists who want to impose sharia.
That, in a few brief words, is the context.
Now for the specifics: on the question of runaway Muslim girls and women, French authorities consistently provide refuge. Offering refuge to Muslim girls and women who flee oppression and death threats from their families is so commonplace it rarely gets into the news. I can't imagine a French social worker refusing to believe that the woman'who seeks refuge is not truly in danger.
Because we have a huge Muslim population and extensive experience with these situations, the danger of "honor" killings is taken seriously. Runaway girls and women are housed in secret locations where family members can not reach them.
Rifqa Bary would be given refuge without a sliver of a doubt.
Muslim families often try to marry their teenage daughters to men in the home country during school vacations. When the girl's classmates--Muslim or not--suspect this has happened because the girl doesn't return to school after the vacation, they report it to the authorities who investigate and intervene when necessary. These Muslim girls are French citizens--as Rifqa Bary is American. As citizens they are entitled to the protection of French authorities. Whatever their origin or religious beliefs, families do not have the right to deprive their children of the freedom granted to all citizens.
It is curious to observe the ignorance of American authorities and media on such fundamental issues. And it is troubling to see that the freedom of a young woman is taken so lightly in the United States, the land of liberty.
"This is in many ways an old story," Panetta wrote, saying many of the techniques have already been made public.
President Barack Obama has approved creation of a new, special terrorism-era interrogation unit to be supervised by the White House"
UPDATE, 2:52 PM:BROKEN PROMISE: OBAMA LIED TO US. He said he would not prosecute the great Americans who kept the country safe during the aftermath of 911. So safe, in fact, we elected a Muhammadan president. Obama sweats the treatment of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, while setting up our boys and girls in Afghanistan. We are experiencing the highest number of deaths in the war against the global jihad month after month over there because, in Obama's words, "victory is not the goal".
Another vile chapter in the Obama presidency. The man will never stop punishing America for electing him. You will pay with everything good and decent. The left wing media will drop the unpopular national socialist Obamacare plan like a hot potato and will be like sharks to chum in blackening the name of brave Americans keeping a safe on the wall.
After months of consideration, Attorney General Eric Holder plans to appoint a special prosecutor to examine allegations that terror suspects were abused at the hands of their CIA interrogators.
It's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack. Obama won't let this go. Uighurs in Bermuda, CIA agents on the rack.
The morally bankrupt O-administration is yet again going after those who put protecting Americans first. The hypocrisy of this administration is breathtaking, but the implications of such action are very revealing.
The bottom line is that if one only has limited energies to devote to a wide range of enormous problems, why would anyone work to make American defense efforts the enemy? Jihad is the enemy. What was done was all done in defense of this dear country. Saner men would have lined up the enemy in front of a firing squad.
One has to ask: why did this man run for President? The knee jerk reaction to such a question is that a man (or woman) runs for President because he loves America. It is becoming increasingly clear that Obama ran for President because he hates America and wants very much to indict it.
"There is also no question," Obama said, "that Guantanamo set back the moral authority that is America's strongest currency in the world." I disagree. America going on a witch hunt and prosecuting those that kept this country safe sets back our moral authority. America turning her back on the jihad against women, Christian, Jews, and non-believers has set back America's moral authority. America electing a radical for a President has set back America's moral authority.
America electing an America-hater for President vanquished our moral authority.
America's Justice Department said it would reopen an investigation into the role of CIA employees in torturing terrorist suspects, including an incident in which a detainee was subjected to a mock execution.
The Justice Department's ethics office recommend an inquiry in a report presented to Attorney General Eric Holder that will be released on Monday.
Details of prisoner abuses that were gathered in 2004 by the agency's inspector general have never been released but when the CIA first referred to the inspector general's findings, it decided that none of the cases merited prosecution.
"With the release of the details on Monday and the formal advice that at least some cases be reopened, it now seems all but certain that the appointment of a prosecutor or other concrete steps will follow, posing significant new problems for the CIA," the New York Times said. In some examples of abuse that have just been publicised, the CIA report describes how its officers carried out mock executions and threatened at least one prisoner with a gun and a power drill. The methods constitute possible violations of a federal torture statute.
Jailers used the tactics on Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, a suspect in the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole in Yemen, in an attempt to force him to yield information.
Nashiri, who was captured in November 2002 and held for four years in one of the CIA's "black site" prisons, was one of three al-Qaeda chiefs later subjected to a form of simulated drowning known as waterboarding, according to US media.
The report, completed in 2004 by the agency's inspector general, John Helgerson, also said that a mock execution was stag
